Default OS 4.1: what can you do with these new profiles? - 01-18-2006, 09:37 PM

So, what good is bluetooth? Besides a headset, or using a Handsfree, what do these new profiles do?

The following profiles are available:

"headset"
"handsfree"
"Desktop Connectivity"
"Wireless Bypass"

What are the last two for? I was unable to do PIM sync, addressbook sync, or use this device as a bluetooth modem..

the only option i get when browsing this device is "audio gateway"

The only cool thing i've been able to do is listen to my phone from my laptop, which gives me speakerphone capabilities.

Ok, I got more stuff to work:

a) I was able to successfully PIM sync over bluetooth. Assuming you have successfully configured the Microsoft Bluetooth implementation and paired with a Blackberry, you can now configure the Handheld Manager to connect via Bluetooth. Once you have done this, go to the Desktop Manager (DTM) and under connection settings, select bluetooth.

And off you go..

That's because BT modem connectivity (for dial-up networking) is not supported.

What about Bluetooth serial profile? The Blackberry works as a serial port (usb to serial driver), perhaps this profile allows you to set up a com port between machines?

Don't think so. Verizon has blocked whats known as DUN.
