Cool Cardo Scala 500 - 03-07-2006, 10:57 AM

I have had two different units. The first one was only "fair" at best as I had to crank up the volume to hear my callers but that led to a lot of wind noise and echo. Eventually I dropped it and ran it over with the car, a fitting end I think. I decided to buy a second one just to see if the first was a fluke unit. The second one worked much better right out of the box and was crystal clear and loud enough. However, after 3 months of use the sound quality has degraded to almost inaudible. I have contacted Scala for a "free" replacement unit. If the don't want to send me one, thats ok, I will take my buisness elsewhere.

I read a great review on it yesterday, but there's one big knock on this and was wondering if anyone can confirm. Apparently, if you switch from headset to either handset or speakerphone and then wish to go back to the headset, you have to pair the 500 from scratch. That's a serious flaw to me, and the writers of the article even said that if you do this often, the 500 isn't for you. I actually do sometimes check voice mails using the speakerphone on my 7130e (vs. putting my 510 on)...it's just easier.
