I have had an 8700c for about 2 weeks now and purchased a Plantronics 640 primarily for handsfree use in the car.

As you know, it is very small and light.

I purchased the adaptor so it can be charged with the mini-USB chargers of the 8700.

The 640 sounds greeat and I am told I sound great on it.

However, i am not sure if I like things stuck in my ear. It is not uncomfortable per se, it is just sticking in my ear.


So I purchased the H700 to compare.

I think the H700 is more comfortable to wear but the SOUND QUALITY IS NOT EVEN CLOSE.

There is more static sound at all times and people say I sound much better on the 640.

Therefore, the H700 goes back.

Figured I would share the experience.

Good information. I have the same setup (8700c & 640). The quality and volume of audio I hear is great. However, people complain that I sound like I am in a large metal room. They hear me loud and clear but tinny sounding. I have left voicemail messages to my office from my 640 and I have to agree. I had no complaint when the 640 is paired with my old motorola Razr.

I don't keep the 640 in my ear all the time when driving long distances. I usually set it on a convenient spot on the console until I have to make a call or receive a call.

I have placed a pre-order for the 645 and I will hope for the best.

I use the 640 paired with a 8700c also. I actually prefer having the ear bud for placement in my ear. I can hear much better. I have found with the over the ear models, I hold my hand against it to press it closer to my ear so I can hear...which was the whole point of getting a hands free headset...so I wouldn't have to use my hands. I have no complaints with the 640. I am interested to hear what the sound quality differences with the 645 are.

Allow me to reiterate how disappointed I was with the H700

hhmm I have had the h700 for a while now and I love it...
do you remember what part number you had?
syn1311a or syn1311b?
I found that the "a" had some problems...I happened to get a "b" and another person in my company got an "a" and it was crap...

i have the 8700c and the plantronics 640
i like the way the headset sits on my ear and the fact that the unit does not flop around like the motorola hs850
the sound quality was better when it was paired to my razr
