I ordered a red one today from jawbone.com. Going to be shipped to me in Canada, so hopefully it won't take too long. Will be pairing it with my Blackberry Pearl 8100.

I think the red colour is nice, stands out. Not a lot of pople have the red one either as it is the newest colour in the line.
In fact I have never seen anyone in Canada even wearing the Jawbone, in my area anyway.

Okay, this is crazy. I live near Boise Idaho. I called EVERY authorized Cingular store in our area. Nobody has them, have been waiting for over a month.
I called Cingular stores in Salt Lake City and Portland, same thing.
Jawbone is out, and I sent them an email asking when they expect to have more for sale, haven't heard anything yet, although it has been less than 8 hours since I emailed them.
Is there anyone one here that knows they are in their local store and help me obtain one? PM me please. Thank you!

Just order it online, you would have had it by now.
I ordered mine yesterday, still waiting for a trascking number though. :(
I just emailed them about it, hoping to get a response, although I know a lot of others did not.

CurbMonkey, I'll tell ya what I'm gonna do. It's been about 2 weeks since I called all the Cingular stores in my area looking for one. When they were all sold-out, I gave up and ended up ordering the black one online.
Since I haven't checked with Cingular since then, I'll check over the next couple days, then let you know if I find one.
In the meantime, if you haven't already done so, check on Cingular.Com and see if they have it in-stock.

I just received my Jawbone on Friday. I guess I was lucky to get my order in on-line before Jawbone ran out. I've had the Motorola 850, Motorola hs-700 (a and b versions), Plantronics 640, Jabra JX10, and Nokia bh-800 headsets. There are pluses and minuses to all of them, but I am very pleased with the Jawbone and I'm sticking with it for a while. Here's my take so far:
1. Noise filtering works as advertised. It's absolutely amazing. Much better than any other I've tried. People on the other end say it sounds like I'm speaking on my regular phone in a quiet room.
2. The sound coming through the earpiece is a bit tinny, but it doesn't bother me because the sound level and clarity are good. The Nokia hs-800 is probably the best in this category.
3. It is lighter than I expected. It took some playing around with different earpieces and ear hooks, but I finally found a comfortable fit. The Nokia hs-800 and Jabra JX10 had slightly better fits, though a little bending of the metal makes for a snug fit.
4. The connection quality is perfect. I don't hear any background hissing at all. It outperforms all of the others here. The Jabra JX10 was surprisingly poor.
5. The controls are easy to use. The noise filter is on by default with each call, which is fine with me because it works. The volume control is only in 1 direction, but again, I haven't found it to be much of an issue. Pressing the talk button once when it's on standby activates the voice dial feature of the phone. You have to hold the button down on the Nokia which is a total pain.
Overall, it's been the best one for me.

How to use Jabra Eargels (full size) -
02-23-2007, 01:39 AM
Hey everyone, found the info some have been wanting: how to use the Jawbone ® with Jabra Eargels!
Found these on another forum, posted by a member that got the full-sized Jabra eargels to work:
Only the image sizes have been changed, to protect the innocent (and because the photographer left them in their full 4 MP size! )
It really is as simple as just figuring out which one of the full-size Eargels fits you best, then slipping it onto your Jawbone ® in place of the normal Aliph earbud. And it'll stay in your ear without the earhook! And that's how you do that!

Well my local Cingular store FINALLY got their shipment in this morning. I immediatley went down and purchased one. I just got back to my office and am now waiting for it to charge. I am excited to be able to use it.
Thanks for the info about the ear gels. I may have to give that a try.

I got those images from this thread, where the Jabra usage and several other eargel mods are discussed. It's a 9-page long topic, but there's lots more info on there from people that have done these mods, in regards to how well they work.

I also went to Radio Shack and picked up the Jabra Eargels. They work great and no earhook!! I find the eargel to be very comfortable.
Two things that bothered me about the Jawbone, Volume and Tinny inbound audio. The volume was not loud enough in noisy environments and I struggled to hear the other party. With the eargel the volume is louder I guess because it is in the ear canal and not as much outside noise gets in. I no longer have the volume maxed out. The Tinny audio is still there but I have gotten used to it.
I was getting ready to switch back to my Nokia BH-900 but now that I have modified my Jawbone I think I will stick with it.

I have read on a couple of sites that the Jabra eargels don't allow the sensor to touch your cheek very well. Have you noticed this problem at all?

I stopped by a Radio Shack by my office on lunch and picked up some Jabra Ear gels. For $8 can't go wrong if I didn't like them. I have to say, these are awesome! I would highly recommend someone with a Jawbone headset to get some Jabra ear gels! Much more comfortable.
The only thing I have noticed is that you cannot pull on the headset by itself to remove it from your ear. If you do the ear gel stays in your ear. You need to use your index finger to help plop the gel out.

Mine is on there pretty good. When I take it of my ear, the gel comes with it without any extra effort.

I spoke with one of my coworkers today who is having some issues with his Jawbone. I think echo related. He went to the Cingular store to see if he could replace his Jawbone and they were out of stock . But the Cingular guy said that the new Jawbones coming out are a different rev. Something to the effect of different modifications or firmware!?!? I'm not sure if this is true or if the sales guy was blowing smoke. But I'd like to ask everyone to keep there ears open (no pun intended) to see if this is true and if so what mods did they do and does it improve the Jawbone.

If there is a new firmware upgrade (which I am sure there is) I would like to know if we early adopters can get it applied to our headset.

To me it would seem probable but unlikely. The USB connection Jawbone has looks like it is only a power connection not for data. I have no info to back this up. So if there is a new firmware version. I think $119 smackerous will get you the upgrade. Unless maybe there willing to do some type of trade for our old units. But let's keep in mind this firmware is all hearsay until someone can actually confirm this.

I have my JB about a week now. I picked it up at my local Cingy, but before I went, I called the manufacturer and asked if the new ones had any improvements. She said that they were the same as the ones that they had been selling all along. She did say that they were working on the next model, but had no timeframe regarding availability.
I also picked up the Jabra Eargels, but found the original JB setup more comfortable and secure, and the sound was better. I guess it depends on the shape/size of your ears.

Forgot to mention. It seems that the voice dialing was better when I was using the Moto H500 BT than it is with the JBone.
Anyone else notice that?

I called Cingular (611) yesterday afternoon and spoke with an equipment rep. They overnighted a silver JawBone which came today. Now that's what I call fast! (better yet, she waived the shipping charge)
It's charging right now, and I plan to compare/contrast it with the Samsung WEP200 that I bought from a Cingular store here in Ft Lauderdale the other day.

Well I went out and finally got the Jawbone (in silver) at my local NYC Cingular store (34th St. and 7th Ave.). I've been using it for about a week and really like it. It was easy to set up and pair and operation is a piece of cake once you figure it out. I did however have issues with being able to hear the other party in noisy environments. Even with the volume cranked up on my BlackBerry 8800 it wasn't great. Following suggestions on this thread, I went to Radio Shack this past weekend and picked up the Jabra EarGels. One word - WOW. These things work great! I concur with a previous poster that there is about a 200% increase in volume. Also the fit is perfect and the sensor on the Jawbone touches your face perfectly. You don't have to use the ear clip however I tried it both ways and prefer it with the clip on. It's a nice snug and comfortable fit. I frequently, while talking with the Jawbone, switch the noise filter on and off and people on the other end are blown away at the noise cancelling ability.
Bottom line - highly recommended.

Do you use it in Manhattan while walking? I've been pretty disappointed by the dsp headsets as, especially in Times Square, they clip so badly it is unusable.

Folks,
I see people here using a BT headset with an 8700.
How was the problem of the BT link dropping out after 5 seconds solved? I'm a newer BB user and my old BT headset (GNNetcom) suffers from the call dropping problem.
Except I know it's not the headset but the BB. What was the fix?

I don't really use my Jawbone while walking the streets of Manhattan for a few reasons. One, I feel a little silly walking around talking to myself, perhaps I am a little self conscious. Two, wind noise, as others attest, seems to always effect the DSP and sound quality regardless of how great the headset is. And finally I mostly use my wireless headset in the car when traveling, at the airport when my hands are full or in my office when conducting long calls. That being said I did last night walk (briskly) from my office at 1 Penn Plaza to 10th and 37th St with the wind howling. I was able to conduct a reasonably good conversation all things considered. I do think you have to know the limitations of a wireless, or wired, headset no matter who makes it. Overall I think the modified Jawbone is a keeper for me.

I LIKE the Jawbone!!!! -
03-07-2007, 07:48 PM
I have seriously hated the other bluetooth headsets I have owned. I used them for about a day, and then, due to low volume, crappy connectivity, or simply the fact that they made me look like a full-blown dork, I gave up using them.
The Jawbone is the first headset I have ever liked, and continued to use for any length of time. I find that the incoming and outgoing sound quality is good, and that the noise cancellation appears to work well. I guess I can see why some people describe the sound quality as "tinny". It does seem to skew toward midrange and higher frequencies. But the bottom line for me is that I can hear the people I am talking with clearly, and they can hear me clearly. I am not listening to music on this thing, and the sound quality is plenty adequate for a phone conversation IMHO.
The Jawbone was also easy to set up and use, and it integrates beautifully with my BlackBerry 8800. A single push on the headset brings up my voice dialing application just like the manual said it would, without me having to configure anything. I like the fact that the volume adjustment is also common to the headset and phone. In other words, when I turn the volume up using the keys on the phone, it goes up in the headset, and if I make adjustments to volume on the headset, I can see the little volume graph on the phone display going up or down.
Also, the delay time in picking up calls from the headset seems much shorter than what I have noticed with previous headsets.
I only have two small complaints:
1. I wish this was a slightly tighter fit in my ear. I tried all of the inserts they provided but none seem to be "snug" enough. Still it's not like the thing is falling off my head.
2. I wish the blinking LED light on the Jawbone that shows it is operational was BLUE instead of white. In bright sunlight, it is difficult to tell if the headset is on, because the white LED lighting up the white strip on the headset is nearly impossible to see. However, a colored LED would be visible in these conditions. Plus I think blue would just look cooler ;)
Overall, based on my experience with it so far, I would recommend this headset to others.

WOW!!! I don't use a BT device, but I've been thinking about it quite often lately. The Jawbone looks FLAT OUT COOL. Nice lookin' lady on the website as well. I looked at the Qstik, and from a design standpoint, I think it's terrible. It looks huge. I think Qstik should totally redesign it. Streamline it. Make it sleeker.... Like the JawBone, and others... =^) ... The "round" design just doesn't do it for me. You want your BT device to be both functionally superior and FLAT OUT COOL LOOKIN' ... The Qstik, in my opinion is definitely lacking in the "Cool Lookin'" category...

Like most of you I've tried a variety of BT headsets. My favorite to date is the Bang & Olufsen EarSet 2 - excellent design and sound quality. The B&O has 2 negatives - only recharges by A/C adapter (no USB capability) and second, no noise reduction function.
The Jawbone BT pairing was simple (BB 8100) and the noise reduction works as advertised. Called a friend while standing in the garage next to the car with the engine running, hood up and radio blasting and he was not aware of any noise at all. Impressive. I then tried the various ear tips that came with the Jawbone and settled on one in particular that fits securely. I also tried a Jabra eargel (that I use on a wired earpiece) and without the ear loop on the headset. I found the Jabra eargel enabled the Jawbone to fit snugly in the ear but the voice activated sensor was offset away from my face and did not make contact with my cheek. Seems like the earloop is specifically designed to apply counter pressure to force the unit and the sensor tip against the cheek to enable voice activation. I didn't find the incoming voice to be 'tinny' sounding or too low in volume at level 6 outside. It's easier to turn up the volume using the volume control on the BB.
I'm getting used to the buttons and will quickly adapt to feeling for them. For my travels and use in the car, airports, train stations, etc. this is terrific. I bought the unit from a local Cingular store and was pleasantly surprised that the silver is a darker grey than shiny silver. Really pleased with the unit.

Finally Found a Jawbone!! -
03-12-2007, 12:10 PM
I have been calling my local Cingular store for the past couple weeks and finally decided to look online. I went to Jawbone's site and found out that they are sold out. When I called them to see when to expect new product, they told me they are going to be sold out for another 3 weeks. I finally found a good site online that had them in stock, AvediaMedia, and was even more impressed when the Jawbone showed up in 2 days.
I have been using it now for a few days with my Pearl, and absolutely love it. A friend of mine also has one, so when we were at the Texas Roadhouse the other day, he stayed inside and I called him from outside. They were blasting some horrible background music, but while he was talking, everything was filtered out. The only time you could hear anything was when he wasn't talking, and the background noise was VERY faint.
If you are looking for the next generation of Bluetooth and you are sick of trying to shout so people can hear you, this is the device for you.
