Default Jawbone Creaking Noise - 03-29-2007, 07:37 PM

I have a Jawbone and have been very happy with it. It outperforms my Plantronics V510. However, after about a month, a problem has developed.

Specifically, I now hear a creaking sound which is coming from the earloop. Whenever the earloop moves the slightest bit (which happens all the time just from the movement of my head), I hear the creaking noise. Because the Jawbone fits into the ear, it is amplified. It is absolutely maddening.

I have tried the other earloops, and they all have the same problem. The problem just started a couple of days ago.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix?
Thanks.

I am also a Jawbone user. I have not noticed this sound you are describing, but I will pay special attention to see if it is there, but maybe I just haven't noticed it before.

Could you please specify, is this something you hear only when on a call, or whenever you are wearing the Jawbone headset (i.e. at idle between calls)?

Just got my Jawbone. Had it about a month.

No problems at all..
I think there is a firmware update... try that?

I hear it all the time. It sounds like a creaky door. I have now determined that the noise is coming from the circular area into which the earloop inserts, not from the earloop itself. In other words, if you were to use a very small screwdriver and insert it into the slot where the earloop inserts, and then turn slightly while holding the Jawbone next to your ear, you would hear the creaking sound. A firmware update would not solve the problem because it is mechanical, not electronic. It sounds like the portion that rotates is rubbing, not rotating smoothly, and creating the sound, which, because the jawbone is inserted into the ear, is amplified and sounds like a creaky door.

I would appreciate any other thoughts. It seems as thought it needs to be lubricated.

I checked this out yesterday. I don't think I have a creaking sound in my Jawbone either. The only thing that remortely approaches it is something I hear for a few seconds while I am actually in the process of putting on the headset for use. Once it is mounted to my ear/head, I no longer hear anything other than the speaker in the headset unless I reach up and actively move the headset around to re-adjust it.

Maybe yours is just loose or something. I would just take it back and get a replacement and see if that does the same thing or not.

BTW, I am in complete agreement with you that this must be caused by something mechanical......aint going to get fixed by a firmware update.

Good luck.

Put a drop of oil in the hole. I think mine was doing this beacuse the wire earholder was turning slightly in the hole. Fixed my prob
