I got my Verizon 8130 about 10 days ago. It came with version 4.3.0.60 of the OS on it. I got a Jawbone headset with the phone. I never had any trouble with it, BUT that may have been because I never let it sit idle long enough. I returned the Jawbone within just a few days because, while the sound quality was awesome, it wouldn't stay in my ear.

When I returned the Jawbone, I got a Plantronics Discovery 655 (I think) headset to try. Around the same time, I upgraded my phone's OS to 4.3.0.97.

I have now tried my phone with that Plantronics, a Motorola H500, and a Motorola H385 Bluetooth headset. With all of them, if it sat with an idle connection to the phone from somewhere from 3 to 10 minutes, the connection would be lost, and in the phone's Bluetooth Setup, it would show "Bluetooth: Disabled". I could Enable Bluetooth on the phone, and my headset would reconnect - until it sat idle again for 3 to 10 minutes.

Today, I read the suggestion about turning on the BT LED indicator on the phone. Previously, I had it set to Off (why would I want it on, anyway?). I turned it on and tried connecting to my H385 headset again. It just let it sit for 40 minutes and it maintained the idle connection the whole time.

Just more data...

Update: I got a Jabra XS10 Series 2 headset yesterday. It has been working fine, including at least one period of an hour or more with an idle connection, with the Bluetooth LED indicator set to On.

A little while ago, I tried setting the BT LED indicator back to Off. Approximately 2 minutes later, the phones Bluetooth went to Disabled. I went into BT options and Enabled BT again, then turned the LED indicator back on. The headset reconnected automatically, as soon as I enabled BT again, and now (with the LED indicator back on), the headset has maintained its idle connection for another 30 minutes already.

My Blue led is on but that does not apparently help with a gps puck, unfortunately. But the suggestion to go into Bluetooth and Refresh the device appears to work but is definitely NOT convenient.

Reading this thread - it is pretty clear that there is a problem in the firmware and RIM appears to be ignoring it.

If you had issues with 4.1 then it's a different issue than this thread is addressing. There were no bluetooth issues with 4.2.0 and earlier. The issues addressed here began with 4.2.1.

Same issues........

OS 4.2.1.73

Trying to connect to Tom Tom 720, setting up bluetooth doesn't appear to be a problem, goes through all the motions until I try to synch address book from BB then an error appears.

Bluetooth isn't connected although the blue indicator light is on, it stays on even when the TT is turned off which it shouldn't.
Only way to remove this is to disable & disconnect on both devices.

Got the BB at xmas and everything worked fine for 6 weeks!

I am trying to accept bluetooth content on my Blackberry curve and my friends have the same problem with different Blackberrys, which is this:
When asked to accept the incoming advert from a bluetooth proximity device we are asked for a code to enter, which i was told was 0000. Is there anything else we can do to get this content?
Thanks.

First, pair the two devices. That's when they ask for the passcode which is 0000. Then once the two devices are paired, you navigate to the location you want to store the file using the Explore feature in the Media app. Once in the location you want to store the file in you hit the menu key and select "Receive using bluetooth." Then send from the other device.

What kind of file are you trying to transfer? How big is it and do you have a media card?

Same here. 8320 using v4.2.2.180. Could not keep my GPS (Holux M1200)connected on a long trip. Very frustrating! So far it is the only major complaint I have had with an otherwise amazing device.

Same problem as most it sounds. New BBerry 8830, and a nuvi 660 GPS system for vehicle. Can't maintain the connection between the two. Wish I could because the nuvi with a btooth phone work perfectly as a hands free in a vehicle.

I haven't had this happen with the beta versions of 4.3 so lets hope this is fixed in newer OS's. I have had trouble with BT pucks and Google Maps, though.

Talking Blackberry 8830 with Tom Tom 920 - 03-03-2008, 06:20 AM

Have a Blackberry 8830 and a Tom Tom 920. Managed to pair the two together with no problem, even works as a handfree on the Tom Tom 920 now. Have not used it long yet to see if the connection maintains. I will let you know.

Same problem here with my 8320 using v4.2.2.180 and a Holux M1200. bbTracker is the most stable of the GPS apps I have, but Google Maps constantly switches from GPS to tower and back, Nav4All periodically drops the GPS connection and bbMaps will work for a minute, then hang in the "search for satellites" mode. I really home OS v4.5 addresses this problem.

I've got an AT&T 8100 pearl, with 4.2.1.96, and was just driving myself completely nuts on a road trip with the bluetooth GPS constantly stopping it's position updates (using google maps).

I assume this is the bluetooth screwiness that I'm reading about here, where sync is lost even though the blackberry thinks it's bluetooth connection is still good (using a BT-359 GPS).

I see that if I downgrade my Pearl to 4.2.0 this will fix my bluetooth problems most likely, correct? Jumping on the AT&T/Blackberry download page I found at the bottom of the page a version 4.2.0 release 89, would that fix this bluetooth problem?

I downgraded to 4.2.0.89, and so far the bluetooth seems to be working ok. However, opera mini is crapping out constantly with java errors (even after changing application permissions), and I can't seem to minimize the dollars5 mediaplayer software anymore when streaming mp3's.

I use opera mini way more than the GPS. I'm gonna try upgrading to the Rogers 4.2.1.181 package and hope for the best. This sucks.

Very likely. You can always upgrade back....and there are newer OS's than the 4.2.1.96 you are using.

Does anyone know if this bluetooth problem is resolved at all using that Rogers 4.2.1.181 package (apps version 4.2.1.109)?

I have the same problem as reported by Goates at the bottom of the first page of this thread. My OEM bluetooth handsfree kit is in a Mitsbuishi Outlander and worked fine with a previous 7290. I too can make this work if I connect manually.

EDIT: My OS is 4.2.2.163 and I need to re-pair the phone to get it to connect. As soon as I drop that initial connection and try to re-connect, it tells me that it is unable to connect to Handsfree. So, there is a workaround, but it is cumbersome.

I'm running Rogers v4.2.1.109 on a year-old Pearl 8100 with no bluetooth disconnect problems. I often have it on for 30+ minute calls with multiple headset brands and also sync and backup by bluetooth. I've gone through multiple OS upgades and never noticed any issues.

Perhaps it is hardware specific?

Well, just took a quick roadtrip for the first time with 4.2.1.109, and sure enough the bluetooth GPS still hangs intermittently.

So I'm wondering, is this a straight up software problem, or is there some hardware element to this? I'm so frustrated with my complete inability to use bluetooth GPS for reliable navigating on my 8100 pearl, that I'd be willing to swap it out for a new 8100 if there is any chance of a hardware swap fixing it.

Or am I SOL until 4.5 comes out?

How can blackberry screw up something as fundamental as bluetooth? Arrg! lol
