Purchasing on Ebay

Dont buy on ebay. I bought a PDA on there before and it was worthless. Besides, if you get stuck with a terrible handheld and get ripped, Ebay doesnt help.

OK...this isn't the right place to post this, in B/S/T, and if you had a problem with an eBay purchase there are a number of channels to go through to resolve the issue, and eBay CAN help. I have completed quite a few transactions on eBay, almost all for electronics, and have never had a significant problem. I bought my BlackBerry on eBay, in fact. But like I said, this may not be the right place to discuss this.

That's quite a generalization, too. I buy and sell on eBay and I don't sell "poop" :) I actually bought my BB on eBay.

jacobsaa 03-23-2005 04:04 PM

Well I would call you both lucky.

NC*Nextel 03-23-2005 04:12 PM

add another to the "lucky" list... no problems unresolved with ebay yet!

harleyxlc 03-23-2005 04:31 PM

I don't think the fact that I don't sell poop is luck :)

Care to share the details?

Love ebay....as long as you buy from a buyer with 100% feedback you're okay...

thriller 03-23-2005 04:47 PM

i agree a positive feedback is the most important

harleyxlc 03-23-2005 04:55 PM

I'll buy even with a few negs, depends on what they are. I saw a great one while shopping for my bb. Someone left a negative because the display phone they bought didn't work. The auction had huge letters describing the display phone, how it was just a display phone and didn't work, blah blah. Yes still left a negative.

I also look at the responses. Even if you are right, if you respond to a negative with "guy is big jerk, little man syndrome" or other completely unrelated name calling...I avoid you like the plague!

jacobsaa 03-23-2005 05:07 PM

Well I agree with you all. What i am trying to say I guess is, you know when you buy from a store, you are in good shape. The risk is higher on ebay. That's all. Feedback is essential, but being proactive about a good purchase is always key.

KonTiki 07-07-2005 08:22 PM

Aaron your generalization is absurd, I buy through e-bay all the time and have never once had a problem, as a matter of fact I bought my BB there for half the prize Verizon sells them for and it has been nothing but super. Granted there are all kinds in this world, and yes you are bound to sooner or later run into one, but to rant about everyone in one breath and recommending tht no one use it is not the right answer. By the way i have sold three phones on e-bay myself and bought a total of four with no problems. And by the way the risk is not necessarily higher from e-bay, I have been burned buying at a mall.

Most certainly NOT.

Also look at where the feedback came from, too many people gain feedback by selling "e-books", recipes and other crap, do that 100 times, and then suddenly start selling high value stuff.

Always look at the feedback score, kind of products they have sold in the past, if their feedback is mainly from selling or buying etc...

It takes a lot more than just a score.

PowerSellers are your best bet; they have good feedback AND sell a lot of $$$$

I made powerseller a few months ago, and work hard to keep my reputation.

rcrivera03 07-07-2005 08:55 PM

I'm an eBay seller and Buyer, I've had one problem in the last 18 months, and eBay and PayPal both helped, I received my money back. And none of my buyers have had problems, thats why I say Ask you seller questions, if the seller answers them, then they are probably on the level, if the beat around the bush with the answer, find someone else. It is unfortunate that because of one bad experience and a few rotten apples, people make it sound as if everyone elses experience should be the same.

I buy most of my cellular accessories through ebay and never had any problems with anything.

remoteshoppe 07-08-2005 01:10 PM

your right. it's probably much safer to buy from someone who posts a FS thread on a message board and has no rating system to back them up ;-)

blkberryboy 07-08-2005 01:56 PM

What about poor guys like me who havn't won a auction yet but sometimes get denied since we have no rating. I'm reliable and trustworthy but I have to jump thru hoops to put bids in to maybe be allowed to bid. If I dont win than my rating doesnt go up. So I'm honest and still get nailed.

KonTiki 07-13-2005 07:48 PM

I suggest to start buying little items just to establish feedback much like someone who tries to establish credit. Once you have a few under your belt you will be well on your way.

idle0095 09-02-2005 09:41 PM

thats why you only buy from high feedback people
