You need a blackberry specific data plan to access blackberry branded services (for instance the blackberry browser). You might be able to obtain some non-blackberry data services on carrier data service. Talk to your carrier. Also, browse blackberryfaq.com.

First, blackberrys are different.

Second,

Do you have a data plan with your carrier?

Browse the FAQ. I venture 99% of your questions will be answered there. But in short, to browse the internet, send/receive, etc, that is, everything else the blackberry can do besides voice, you need a connection to data service enabled. Blackberrys require a blackberry-specific data service (BES or BIS . . . see the FAQ and use google) for the blackberry branded data applications. One can possibly get some data functionality with the service providers data service for regular phones and using an aftermarket browser such as opera mini (see the FAQ), but it is limited functionality.

I strongly advise reading the FAQ and googling terms you don't understand. Don't start using your service providers data and paying per kb.

You will not be able to use blackberry data without initiating the service with your carrier. When you do that, service books will be pushed to the handset enabling the service. There is nothing for you to configure in the sense you are probably thinking.

A BlackBerry data plan is an additional monthly tariff that turns on these data services like push email, access to the web, BB Messenger, etc. Without a BlackBerry data plan you can use the phone, send/receive SMS messages, and of course use the PIM features of the device. That's it.

In the UK you have O2: Blackberry Bolt-On; T-mobile: Blackberry email booster.
Orange and vodafone I believe call theirs unlimited email or internet (something like that)
Not sure about 3.

I’ve noticed that for some time now my 8700g can’t browse some web pages, which I’ve already browsed several times before and what’s bothering me more I can’t receive text messages, I can only send.

OK - what model BB do you have and what carrier. It is impossible to have an 8700 in Nextel.
