Is there anyway to programmtically blank the screen and keep it blank for a specified period of time? Is this part of the backlight api or is there another API I can use??

I'm also looking to "blackout" the screen as well. Not sure if I pushscreen a new screen will it black it out. Sorta like having the backlight off on the screen.
