Default GPRS Monitor

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All

Can someone point me in the right direction regarding monitoring GPRS usage. I cannot find anything to do it for me, so want to write my own midlet to do the job. Could also turn out useful for anyone else needing to monitory GPRS traffic on their handheld.

I am an experienced developer (20 odd years) in Delphi, C++ and C# but no Java experience and zero mobile development. Some obvious pointers would be appreciated as to what libraries to look into and what events to hook.

TIA

I don't think the APIs for the BB allows such functionality... have you looked at the JavaDocs? Also, you might want to learn some Java, but since you know C#, it should be easy (but C# is nicer, if you ask me).

What are you looking to accomplish?

If you are tyring to "sniff" the GPRS connection and see all data being passed, you won't be able to do it. You can get some basic info like signal strength, cell info, etc. by using GPRSInfo class.

That, and probably register yourself into the globabl listener, which is easy enough.

We pay per MB of GPRS usage in SA and I need some sort of functionality on my 7290 to report on how much I am using per day and overall usage at any period throughout the month. My P800 can report on usage per session and overall daily and per month.

IE: I need to be able to budget my usage. I want the midlet to be able to warn me when I exceed X amount per day, give me an idea of estimated costs based on history usage etc... When there is data transfer on the handheld the little arrows at the top right indicate Tx/Rx so there must be a way to actually log a count of the flow.

DoomBringer... Could you please supply some "Hello World" type code that demonstrates how I would hook the midlet into the global listener.

Yes, I know I could just figure it out myself , but I code from 08H00 right through the day to 01H00 in the AM. I am very pressured with current development and don't have much time to research. I know that is not anyones problem. I am just asking for a pointer in the right direction to get me going a bit quicker. I would like to slap something together over the weekend.
