I just downloaded the Developer Kit from BlackBerry. I want to use the emulator for the purposes of creating some instructions for my users. How do I populate the emulator with some messages?

By "messages", I assume you mean email messages.

If that's the case, the Email Server Simulator (ESS) will allow you to send/receive email messages in the device simulator.

The ESS is installed as part of the JDE.
