custom calendar screen -

Hello all, i am working on a custom application where i need to put a calendar UI on one of the screens. I can load the inbuilt BB calendar on the screen but it comes with all it's inbuilt functionality such as appointment etc. which i do not wish to use. My purpose is to only display a monthly calendar where i want to put some icons on certain days that have some data associated with them in my application. Can i define the behavior of the calendar provided by RIM or i need to build something custom in order to achieve that? any help on this is appreciated. Thanks.
