Default post to web service from java

I need to post some data on a regular basis to a web service.
Is this possible from a java application using http?

I would like to have an application running on the background and that application would do the posting.

yes, that would be possible.
most people use the ksoap2 framework to communicate with webservices, i think there are several examples here in the forum.
