Lindsay,

Two steps are involved.

One: Getting the data to the handheld

You could email it to the customer and have your program watch the Inbox, waiting to pull the data out of the attachment. (See a thread here labelled Push Without BES for more information on that technique.)

You could have your program connect over a socket (I believe it's called a Connection in Java parlance) to a website or a server daemon and pull the data down that way.

Two: Parse the file and find what you need

As for actually parsing the CSV, that's fairly easy and I'm sure you can find a ton of good routines to handle that with Google. Basically you want to split on the comma. (But be careful, because with CSV you can have commas in fields, and merely escape them with quotation marks.)

Hope this helps,
- Tom

Are you writing an application or using an existing one? Is the csv static or does it change over time?

I am writing a new application, and the data in CSV will eventually change. Is it possible to put the data on the BES Server and access it from there some how?

>> Is it possible to put the data on the BES Server

The data doesn't need to be on the BES. It can, and should, be on any Internet or intranet accessible server.

Using http. Check out the httpdemo sample that is installed as part of the JDE.
