Default security question - 06-27-2008, 11:40 AM

Hi!

Is there any way to get the source code from a .cod?? Is there any way to do it impossible??
I don't know if when I sign the .cod file, the file is encrypted or not... Can I obfuscate the source code manually??

Thanks

Hi!

RIM's compiler obfuscates the code to some extent, but not as well as a serious obfuscator. That being said, I've heard some developers have run into issues with obfuscating their BB software - that it's more trouble than it's worth.

As for signing the COD file, the COD file is not encrypted as a result: when you launch the signing tool and execute a signing, your COD file is converted into a hash value, the hash value is transmitted to RIM (they don't get to see your code), the hash is signed by their key, and the signed hash is placed somewhere into your COD file.

Cheers,

karl
