Question Memory question

Please Login to Remove!

I'm curious about the actual hardware now.

My 8820 has "64 MB" of "flash" memory internally, and I'm wondering if this includes that used for the persistent store.

I would have thought given what we have to go through to store something in the persistent store that it is somehow physically separate memory. If so, how large is the store?

Anyone have any more details on device memory and how it is allocated?

Hi,

I recently ran into a related issue and just learned the following:
For built-in flash (located at file:///store/..):
  • Files can be a maximum of 3MB. This is hard-coded.
  • You can store up to 12MB of files, total. This is user-configurable, but I'm not sure how.
  • RIM generally recommends an individual application use only 0.5-1.0MB of built-in storage.

It's not physically different storage, but it's managed differently from built-in storage space.

But, for add-on flash, such as micro SD, there are no limits.

Does this help a little?

Jimmy
