Default Open file using appropriate application - 07-19-2008, 02:49 PM

Hi,

I need to write an application to download a file from a server, save it to the BB device and open it in appropriate application depending on the file type (i.e. extension).

For example if the file has extension .txt I need to launch a text viewer application which will open that file. If file is .mp3 it should get opened in a player etc. If there is no application associated with the file extension then I need to display a message saying something like "Don't know how do open the file".

I am not sure how I will launch appropriate application depending on the file type. Or will the BB OS automatically detect which application to use depending on the file extension and I just have to use some Open API?

Could someone please give me some pointer on this.

Thanks,
Yash
