Default Differences in replies from mail API + mail app ?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Hoping to find an answer to a problem that's got me stumped...

I'm using the v4.0.2 mail api to automatically reply to an email received, using the new (in 4.0.2) message.reply(boolean, boolean) method to generate a reply message sent to all users, including original text.

In the simulator's sent items folder I can see the email created as expected (with original headers and text included), but the recipient (outlook user on the other side of a BES + Exchange) sees only the reply text, and not the whole mail.

Now, I *thought* that to reduce bandwidth usage the reply text alone was sent to the BES and then merged with the original message retrieved from the mail store... so I shouldn't have to copy the content manually... hence the new reply method with the replyWithOriginalText boolean

Clearly I'm wrong...so .. can anyone be kind enough to shed some light ?

thanks,
Pete Chapman

Default

I haven't used the reply() method, but I can confirm the BES grabs the original body from the mail server.

Default more symptoms - different extended flag settings on message viewed at BES

I've found out more symptoms of the difference, though I don't understand why it's occurring.

On the BES, the extended flags property of the message sent using the reply() function in the mail API was set to 4, whilst this was 5 when using the mail app on the device.
