Default URL Scheme / Extension Registering

Does blackberry support custom URL Schemes, e.g. can I create links like MyApp://something so that when clicked on a website my application is launched? I know the IPhone does this I'm wondering if the BB can.

Also, can a similar thing be done with different extensions? I'm pretty sure I've seen that a .kml url will launch Google Maps. Any idea how that is done programatically?

Thanks.
