Default read-only on .java files in the blackberry jde

Please Login to Remove!

This may sound really newbie-ish, but I am using the blackberry jde 4.2.1 and for some reason, I create a new .java file, edit it, and once I build and run it, it goes into read-only mode and I have no idea why or how to reverse it. any help for a newbie would be appreciated.

Neil

What OS are you running the JDE on, Vista or XP?

Question Have the same problem on Vista...

I am using vista and have the exact same problem. Problem occurs with samples or if I create a new project and new java file within the IDE.

The file is NOT read only as far as Vista is concerned.

If you are using the directory structure where RIM puts the samples, then move your projects out of the "Program Files/Research in Motion" directory and put them elsewhere. Vista restricts write access to the "Program Files" directory and all subdirectories under it.

Default Nope thats not it

I thought of that also, and the new project/java files are in a separate directory owned by the user and yet the IDE still says the java files are read only. The "read only" checkbox is set on the parent folder but that is standard for vista/xp and should not effect the read only state of the file which the owner has "full control" permissions for.

Question further information

the issue is definately with the JDE since if I open the same file with any text editor or other development environment such as JBuilder, etc the file can be modified no problem. It seems the Blackberry JDE has some sort of problem under vista.

The only reason I mention jBuilder is that it also prevents you from modifiying a file it is read only. So I think the problem is definately with the Blackberry JDE.

Exclamation Remove UAC to solve this

Removed UAC on Vista and the problem has gone away along with all the annoying popups..
