do you know the device screen width and height?
bitmap made in paint on microsoft OS?

open the image, go to resize the area of the "canvas" and look in the bottom right corner, it gives the widthxheight pixel size.
move until these numbers match the pixel width/height of your screen.

Prepare a custom bitmap for each screen resolution may be an option.
I love BlackBerry and God creates it.

I described how to resize a bitmap on the blackberry a while back: Resizing a Bitmap on the Blackberry | Coderholic

You can get the screen size with Display.getWidth/Height()
