Default SMS - Can I stop it?

Please Login to Remove!

I want to be able to prevent a BB (v4.2.1+) from sending an SMS. Is this possible? I know there is no official way to interact with SMS, but I have been given a mandate to do this-it is quite important to the guy who has asked me to do it.

If anyone has any wonderfully lateral thoughts, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks!

You cannot do this using the RIM Java API's.

Of course, if this "important guy" has control over the accounts, he can disable SMS from the account level (with the carrier).

If he has a BES, he can disable SMS via IT policies.

He is not an "important guy", he is a guy with a problem...and unfortunately, the BB isn't part of an organisation that uses BES.

Whilst the RIM APIs don't allow it...is there another way?

Thanks for understanding.

Wirelessly posted (8830 thru Sprint)

Is this the guy that doesn't want his girlfriend sms-ing anymore? We've been getting a lot of this stalker stuff on here, so don't mind us if we're a little cautious.

If he does not own the account and does not control the device, then what legitimate business does he have blocking SMS?

Anyway, I don't know of any way to accomplish this. When it comes to BB, I know the Java API's and little else, so don't consider me an expert on all things Blackberry.

Perhaps someone else might have some better advice.

@dumbnative - No (at least I don't think so). I have been told it is more about being able to give his little girl a prepaid phone so she can use it if she needs to without wasting the credit texting her friends. He has an old BB that he wants to give her.

In this case, he owns the account. He should contact his carrier and cancel the SMS feature.

<sigh> Looks like it cannot be done then...

@Dougsg38p, while that is possible, he does want to be able to send her SMS, so I guess my subject was unclear - it is the ability to prevent the device sending SMS

@dumbnative, perhaps I'll need to suggest that

Thanks anyway for your help...

well. If you had AT&T, they have smart limits that will allow you to do that... Idk if your carrier offers something similar or not... it may be something worth looking into.
