Default BB application dev

Hey folks, I have just been introduced to the world of black berry development and tasked with making my first application, I really dont know where to start as the majority of the sample apps that I have found are really just basic and do not cover anything that Im looking at doing, so if anyone can post some good sample links that will be cool.
That was my first question, the second is I am trying to display a remote image on my app but at am at loss of how to do this, I have tried streaming the image to the blackberry but it doesnt seem to work should i be using the BrowserField to do this? im hoping to place it on a CustomButtonField along side some text pretty much like the way that app world lists out the apps.
Any advice on what functions I should be looking at would be really cool.

Thanks in advance.

Here is an example of downloading a bitmap and displaying it using BitmapField.
