I would start by familiarizing myself with the sample programs that ship with the JDE.

Like HelloWorld.

I went through the helloworld app and now i have knowledge abt the basics in BB. My query is -
When we dial a number say for example 121, from where this will be read and where will this be temporarily captured as I can see this number in the Menu items like Call 121 or SMS 121.

So i want to knw how to get that number entered?

Thanks.

Question

ok thats great to hear from you
I have added a custom menu item in the phone menu. Now I want to capture the number entered by the user and display it against the new menu item.
It is similar to
When a user dials a number(121) and clicks on the menu, some of the menu items(Call,SMS) will be displaying the number dialed like Call 121 or SMS 121.

Hope I made you understand.

I still don't understand, but whateer it is, it dsoesn't sound possible.

The ApplicationMenuItem on the phone app simply calls your app, no more.

You cannot capture keyboard data from another app.
