Lightbulb Close another application

Is there a way that I could shutdown another running application? I'm currently developing an application and I thought it would be handy to have another background application that ran, but controlled by the other application.

Any thoughts?

If you are writing both apps, then you can signal the other application using the Global Events mechanism.
