Default Make Google Maps your live Blackberry Wall paper

Please Login to Remove!

Hi
In Andriod Phones we can make google maps as the live wall paper on the home screen of the device. Is there any way that we can do the same for blackberry device?

Or i have a application which makes use of the google map features, like showing the current location of the device. Can i show this screen as the home screen of the device?

Thanks in advance.

i have not tried this thing but i think in 4.7 we can do this.
1. using google map api get the my location in (lat and long).
2. using google map api get static map of my location and save in flash memory or a microSD Card.
Code:
String uri = file:///store/home/user/pictures/my_location.jpg
3. set the background image on home screen using.
Code:
net.rim.blackberry.api.homescreen.HomeScreen.setBackgroundImage(String uri)

Thanks

But another doubt i have is if i use static maps in application then it doesnot give the slippery sliding as the google maps for mobile. It waits for the static map to be retrieved from the web service and then display on the screen. How can i implement google maps in my application in other ways?

I found there is a hack to invoke google map from inside my own application but it doesnot allow the application to change the default menu items of the google maps and hence doesnot allow to add new menu item.

Andriod and iphone has google maps api so they can implement google maps easily, how can i do in Blackberry application.

Does anyone know the best way of implementing google maps in a native blackberry application.

Thanks once again.

There is no native integration to Google maps in Blackberry.

I think you have already identified the two possible choices.

hi Dougsg38p,

I have identified both the ways but my confusion is there is a application called wizi sms which also uses the google maps in the native application. The google map in this application is very similar to the one we have for google mobile map which can be scrolled easily in a slippery manner.
I am just not clear how they are ale to integrate such google maps in their own application.

Can you please tell me how they are using it?

Once again, Thanks for your reply.

Google has a publicly available API published so developers can interact with google maps.

Are we talking about Google Maps the BB App, or Google Maps the WEB app?

I have seen absolutely no public documentation of the BB App.

He's referring to neither. He's talking about a third party app that seems to include some form of google maps. If that's indeed gmaps the developers of the said app used the API.

My question was to the-economist

You stated:

"Google has a publicly available API published so developers can interact with google maps."

I spent considerable time searching for docs on starting Google Maps (BB App) and didn't find anything, other than an "unsupported" hack that works most of the time for a single waypoint.

You seem to imply that there is in fact a document.

You misunderstood me. Sorry for that. Let's clear it up.

There is no native integration of gmaps to blackberry apps. The other user mentioned a third party app that displays mapping similar to google and asked how is done. If that's indeed using google maps data it interacts with google via the API which is published under code.google.com.

The licensing even allows to post-process the mapping feed and add/remove/format information specific to your app. So that's what those 3rd party devs probably did.
