Default Touch Events CLICK, UP/DOWN

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everybody,

I develop an application for Blackberry which works on the touch handsets. Currently I'm facing a problem with touch events types. As described here:
Code sample: Identifying the action a user performs on the touch screen

The following code sample uses a switch statement to identify the action.

protected boolean touchEvent(TouchEvent message) {
switch(message.getEvent()) {
case TouchEvent.CLICK:
Dialog.alert("A click action occurred");
return true;

case TouchEvent.DOWN:
Dialog.alert("A down action occurred");
return true;

case TouchEvent.MOVE:
Dialog.alert("A move action occurred");
return true;

return false;
there are events like DOWN, UP and CLICK.

In my application DOWN and UP are used for marking custom screen items and CLICK is used for opening them.

Unfortunately a handset Blackberry 9800 Torch doesn't support CLICK events but only DOWN and UP, while the other handset which also in my scope - Blackberry 9520 Storm 2 - supports all: DOWN, UP and CLICK events. The 2nd handset can be used with my application without any problems, but the 1st can't as it doesn't support CLICK event. Have you got any idea how can I implement a workaround in such a situation?

I'm keen on using DOWN/UP for opening screen items, as their former role - marking - is not a must, but I need to use the same source code for both phone models..

thanks in advance for your help
