NEW - PLEASE HELP, Web link question

I am creating a App for work (im very new at this). (im really not trying to have all the bells and whistles at this point)

Is it possible to, based on what the user inputs in a field, to link to a website (and bring back info from that site)

for example like an ebay app, where you would type in what you're looking for and it links to the ebay server and brings back the outcome.

what i'm doing is....(ideally) you would type in number "1234" into a input box (excel jargon) and that would go to a specific web link, find the desired info that the number "1234" coorelates to then it would display that info in a pop up box in my created app. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP. Im getting very lost.

thanks guys

Re: NEW - PLEASE HELP, Web link question

If the content that comes back is HTML, then you can simply invoke the browser programmatically (see Invoke class in the java docs).

If not, you'll get to use HTTPConnection to connect to the server and retrieve the data. This depends highly on what the server infrastructure is, what type of request it is expecting, and what type of format the response will be in. You need to understand the answers to theses questions before you can ask a meaningful question here.

You might start by looking at the HTTP sample program that ships with the dev tools.
