Default inputmode no longer supported?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi!
We have several web pages that are used for part number related tasks.
Part numbers are all in the format of nnnXnnnnn.
Previously in OS 5.x we have been able to get the keyboard to switch automatically using the input field attribute like so:

style='-wap-input-format: "NNNA5N";-wap-input-required: false'

Or use :
inputmode='digits'

We are now looking at moving to OS 7, and it seems there is no way of forcing the keyboard to numeric while still allowing text input.
( using input type='number' prevents alpha character input )

Does anyone know how this can be accomplished?

Thanks!
Chumly
