Default Java versions & RIM JDE

Please Login to Remove!

Wow am I confused. I'm getting the following error message trying build a projectct:

C:\Documents and Settings\Karl\Personal Data\BB_Java development\KvV\Utils\UI\ generics are not supported in -source 1.3
(try -source 1.5 to enable generics)

1) Is switching to java 1.5 even an option, given that I'm building to a BB running 4.1.0 OS?? Or does that lock me into an older version of Java?

2) I'm running with JDE 4.1.0, and JDK / J2SE 1.5.0 - wouldn't this mean that I SHOULD be linking to source 1.5 already?

3) If it's a simple matter of switching a config or build option in the JDE to link to the 1.5 API -- where the &^%$%^! do you find that????

Many thanks

I had this same issue when I began developing. I mistakenly thought that the compilation process would "convert" 1.5 structures to 1.4 compatible versions for the RIM JDE. I use Eclipse, but I created a JRE that included the rim.jar. If you develope using that as your JRE, you'll find that you can't use 1.5 generics or structures at all. Keep in mind, that your code gets compiled against the JDE Java classes (and versions thereof). It knows nothing of generics, or how to "convert" them to RIM JDE compatible versions.

Hope this helps.
