I have created socket connection in Blackberry as follows

sc = (SocketConnection) Connector.open(URL);

Initially URL was

URL = "socket://" + _host.getText() +":"+_PORT+ (_useDirectTcpField.getChecked() ? ";deviceside=true" : "");

_host.getText() gives me the ip submitted by the user.

Through simulator i can connect with google server.But when I put that sample application to device I got following error

"IOException: Could not open tunnel - failed"

I was trying to connect directly to the server without any MDS or BES. I have taken the following steps to resolve the problem.

1. I have contact the Airtel customer care and save the setting again.
My device is showing "GPRS" below the signal image.

2. I have checked the options->TCP .
APN: airtelgprs.com
Username for APN: (BLANK)Blank for airtel
Password for APN: (BLANK)Blank for airtel

Through Blackberry Internet Browser I am able to access Internet. I am able to open Google.

3. I retry the application after changing the URL to
URL ="socket://64.233.167.104:80;deviceside=true;apn=\"airtelgprs .com\";tunnelauthusername=\"\";tunnelauthpassword= \"\""

But still I am getting the same error.

Can anyone help me what should I do now to make a successful connection on the device.

Please also tell me Internet Browser use different method of accessing the Internet? If so then can my application can use that method.

hi Pankaj,

I am also using Airtel india connection. I have faced same problem when trying to open a http connection. In the simulator it is working fine,but in the device the same tunnel exception is thrown.I contacted airtel customer care for apn details.But they didnot give the details telling that APN details are not disclosed to customers.I am still having the same problem.I am using 7230 bb. If u find the solution please do mention in this forum
