Default Status: File Free

Hi,

Im using 7100t. Whenever Im deleting the entries from Calender or MemoPad etc., at the same time "File Free" shows the number with no increment. In practical, it should show the increased free space. However, after some time, it shows increament with some arbitrary number.
Does it mean that the Garbage Collector works only as-and-when required? In order to check this point, I've return a sample app. in which storing some data in persistent storage & after deleting it, Im calling the System.gc(). However, Im not getting the newly incremented "File Free" number.

Can anybody suggest me, why its happening.

I know little about the various types of GC like Full GC, Thorough GC.

Please give me some light.

Earlier reply is much appreciable.

RimZim.

I think the file system is just being flaky.
IIRC, there are 3 kinds of GC operations. The first and fastest one will just delete objects that have gone out of scope, the second kind will clear out some other crap, and the third and slowest kind will go clean out everything, including the file memory, so it can have more room to swap. Try invoking the GC with a higher setting. I read all of this from an article on RIM's site, it is very detailed.

While I thought you could tell the GC to do a deeper purge, you can't.
Sorry
