Default Push application design

Hi.

Can you plz add in what you think of the provided architecthure as im a little unsure wheether its a total mess or its ok. (Its working and its pretty easy!)

Im using the pushtech where i push content from my server database (as a string) to my blackberry which stores it in a local blackberryDB i made myself. The doubtfull part of my design is that i use the email api to handshake with my server that i got the message from

is this just plain stupid as there are way more efficient communication and synch patterns or do you find it just somewhat acceptable?

what would you do handshaking and 2 way communication wise?
