Welcome to the forums, Andy.
We are going to need more info than this. Were/are you on a BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server)? When did the issue begin? What changes were made around the time the problem began? What mail platform do you uses (Exchange, Domino, GroupWise)?

When did this stop?
Can you use any other functions of the device, such as the browser? Are you showing EDGE or edge? Have you tried removing the battery for 30 seconds?
Check the following settings:
Messages > Options > Email Settings > Send Message to Handheld = ??
Messages > Options > Email Settings > Menu Key > Folder Redirection, make sure you have a check next to Mailbox.

I AM RECIEVING SMS ETC, BROWSER IS OK, shows EDGE i believe, i have not tried nbattery but will do that. i dont seem to be able to check the box next to the folder redirection, it just stays highlighted with no options to either check or uncheck.

Start with a Battery pull. SMS doesn't use data so that's not a good means of troubleshooting.
Select Folder Redirection, from there you should see your folder tree. By default you should have Mailbox and Sent Items checked. Verify they are still checked. Also is Send mail to handheld set to yes?

What happens when you try to send an email?
Messages > Options > Email Settings > Menu Key > Folder Redirection. What do you see once you select this?

Have you consulted your IT staff?
When you send a message from the device, you receive it on the PC?
