Guys,

help me understand this...

I'm loving BB from the moment I got the Curve and signed up for BIS until the moment I have the Torch. And I'm feeling an attraction for the Z10, BUT I'm feeling depressed and on the fence about getting the Z10 due to the various news that have come to light these past several months:

1. BlackBerry (formerly known as RIM) is leaving BIS, which means bye-bye pushmail service--which is the strength of BB in the first place. What I previously understand about BIS and pushmail is we pay for server subscription that pulls messages from our webmail accounts and push them to our handset.

2. Then I read about
Post-BIS BlackBerry Z10 offers superior e-mail functionality | ZDNet
that says pushmail can still work on Z10 due to Microsoft EAS functionality (which, according to that article, becomes the de facto standard for pushmail technology). But without BIS subscription, I wonder how EAS can work? I've been reading about EAS and from what I understand it still requires a server to push the messages.

3. In Dec 2012, Google announced that it's dropping EAS for its free customers in favor of IMAP + CardDAV (paying Google Apps customers are still supported with EAS). One of the articles about that is here
http://winsupersite.com/mobile-devic...ls-eas-support
That's like slitting the wrists of a large number of customers like me whose primary e-mail app is Gmail and have multiple Gmail accounts for different purposes. Though, much of the articles I read didn't mention what the impact of that is for BB, you have to wonder whether or not, after the cutoff, can the Z10 (and future BB handsets) use Gmail again?

4. As you know, BlackBerry has announced to release BBM as a multiplatform app that can run on Android and iOS (my guess, to compete with WhatsApp). But this move is only decreasing BB's appeal. The moment this move is realized, a whole lot of people--who only care about BBM feature--will be ditching their BB for other phones and download BBM onto it.

It seems, to me, that BB's position is weakening due to both external and internal measures.

What do you guys think about BlackBerry's outlook? Should I just forget about getting the Z10? And should we all prepare our goodbyes to BlackBerry altogether?

Skype Now Available for BlackBerry Z10 Asers xxx8211; - Skype Blogs...

Skype Now Available for BlackBerry Z10 Asers xxx8211; - Skype Blogs

"In late April we announced that Skype was available for download in a preview version for the BlackBerry Q10 from BlackBerry World. Today, as the BlackBerry 10.1 operating system starts to roll out on the BlackBerry Z10, we are happy to announce that Z10 users around the world will now be able to enjoy the preview version of Skype on their devices.

We have been working closely with BlackBerry to give users the best possible Skype experience on the Z10, just as we have for the Q10. When you download the Skype app, you can try all of Skypexxx8217;s popular features, and also see how seamlessly the Skype app integrates with the phone book and the BlackBerry Hub.

With Skype on your BlackBerry Z10 you will be able to talk with your loved ones using free video and voice calling, send them instant messages, or if you know they are busy, reach them through text or video messages. In addition, youxxx8217;ll be able to call landlines and mobiles all over the world at Skypexxx8217;s low rates.

Check with your local operator to see when the 10.1 update to the Blackberry operating system is available for your Z10 device and download Skype from the BlackBerry World store to easily connect with your family and friends.

Remember this release is still in preview version. We will continue working with BlackBerry over the next months to refine the performance of the Skype app. So keep an eye for any new Skype updates on BlackBerry World for your device!

We always appreciate your feedback and welcome your comments on Skype Support Network or at this blog. To find out more about Skype, and learn how you can get the most out of your Skype experience, follow us on Twitter or Facebook."

EDIT: You must be on 10.1 for Skype to be available on App World.

It's been 3-4 months in some parts of the world since rollout. The 10.1 "leaks" don't appear to be addressing the issue (I realize it's not official as of yet.)
I don't think most of us care if it is the carrier's fault (doubtful) or Blackberry's fault, but this is getting tired (speaking of which, I am also tired as my alarm started going off at crazy times as a result of reboots during the night.)
Now, I read a post in another forum from a Z10 user that had his phone reboot during a 911 call!
Blackberry- PLEASE FIX this!

So.....anyone find a good Toodledo client for the device? This would have been a great opportunity for Rexwireless to jump to the head of the class but looks like they are still in a coma.

Yeah, I know it's EAS and not MAPI now but Apple and Touchdown (on Android) seem to manage just fine....

I really support the BlackBerry folks and want this to be a success. I am such a new user of a smartphone and very new to the BlackBerry 10, and because I am a senior female not familiar with "Device Land" but pretty computer-savvy, and only having owned a simple cell phone before that I just used for talk, well, I have a few comments --

The Z10 is very complicated for the new user and I am afraid it's complexity may frustrate some potential customers and users -- I wish the company would produce an Absolute Beginners Manual online and maybe even in print, with each new phone, and also add to the software some simple instructions when the Z10 is active, like a few suggestions for what to do next, where the right-hand side vertical list of things-to-do is located, like an arrow and a "check this" blurb or something... I miss some simple pointers to this and that... I am so used to Windows 7... and earlier Windows, on the computer! However, I am enjoying it and each day brings a new achievement!

Hi,

we are running a Lotus Notes Traveller-installation 8.5.2. For certain circumstances, we are unable to pgrade to version 9.0. However, we are interested to run a BES 10-Server against the Traveller 8.5.2.

To my understanding, the connection is based on the ctivesysn-protocoll which is included also in 8.5.2. So it should be possible to install and run BES10 with this version of traveller.

Has anyon had experience whether this is possible and are there any special hints how to configure either Traveller or BES 10 to make them talk to ecah other?

Kinde regards
when I find an item I need within the software such as a credit card or web site login info I cannot just view the item, you can either edit it or click to go login to the site.
am I doing something wrong? is there a way to just view the information without having to click on Edit?
Thank you

hi all,

We're able to configure and activated our BBZ10 connected to our exchange 2010 SP2 environment with our BB10 server.

Reading/sending mail ok but not on SMIME. We tried to import the certificate to the device but faced issue during send SMIME to myself or to other people.

If send to myself - There may be a problem with your encryption certificate.

If send to other colleagues - Before the message can be encrypted, a certificate is needed for the following recipient(s).

do we need any other configuration to lookup the user certificate from AD?
if yes, how? because i can't find anyway to configure at BB10 server.

Thanks.

Regards,
