So I decided I'd had it with the memory leak in 5.0.0.230, and I upgraded my 8330's OS to the hybrid 5.0.0.328.

Nathanix Blackberry Resource - Blackberry Curve 8330 OS 5.0 Installation

Memory leak gone, all was well there. But when I went back and edited the Blackberry.alx file to grab the new themes, it threw up at me and said I had no memory available. Turns out, if you go through and delete all the vendor codes from this alx file, it tries to install T-Mobile's Faves app as part of the Blackberry system files.

After I deleted T-Mobile's vendor entries from the Blackberry.alx file, I was then able to add the themes I wanted.

Then I decided to go grab the 4 free games for 5.0 (Klondike, some word game, Sudoku and Texas Hold Em) and install those:

8520 games/themes for the 8330 (addon/hybrid) (OS5.0) - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

I ended up removing the word game and Texas Hold Em after trying those out. Sudoku and Klondike, I kept.

I'm humming along now, and happy. This is a solid build. But I will say that I don't have much memory left. And I didn't have that many 3rd party apps installed to start off with: a handful of Google apps, Evernote, SmartAlerts/BerryBuzz, Pandora, and KaGlom.

Going forward on 5.0, I can tell I will need to sit down and do some math before deciding to install anything new on the phone. I will regain some memory later this week, after I've tested the themes, by uninstalling all of them except my favorites. Even so, this OS is a tight fit.

If you uninstalled 5.0 because of the memory problem, I can recommend this hybrid for fixing that problem. (y)

Hey all,

I am trying to add the vvm files to my 5.0.0.314 install on my Bold (9000). I have the files, and have copied them into my Java folder and have run the loader program, but I haven't pulled the trigger.

The reason I haven't is because loader tells me that it will downgrade my bbm from my current version, (5.x) back to the version that installs with OS 5.0.0.314, which is 4.6 I believe.

Can you all recommend how to get the vvm files installed without downgrading the bbm install I have, or confirm that bbm will have to be removed as part of the process after which, I reinstall the bbm 5.0 OTA. (which is how I put it on in the first place)?

Also, I wanted to remove the voice activated dialing module so I removed all the vad files, but noted that in the loader application it made no mention of the application and the hoped-for removal of them. Does this application show up in the list of apps or is it just considered "core" and would be removed despite not being displayed in the application list?

One other esoteric item: does anyone have the latest radio file from 5.0.0.348 and can you advise on stability and how to install it? I assume some of the issues above would apply with this effort as well.

Thanks for your help,

I have been running the OS version noted above for about a week now and it has been fairly stable for me.

I did have my phone randomly reboot and as fate would have it, that happened immediately before I needed to get on an important conference call!

I also had a randomly occurring 507 error message with an option to reset, which I did. That happened a couple days ago and has not happened again.

I had the browser issue that others have noted, specifically that it was not installed initially. I followed the instructions found elsewhere on the board to reinstall it and that worked perfectly.

I also lost visual voicemail (vvm) and have not yet attempted to insert the needed cod's to make that work. I believe that as a result, I get txt messages instead and I suspect those are normally interpreted by the vvm application to appear as voicemail messages.

I've noticed that by default in OS 4.6 that a single press of my headset button would invoke the voice dailing feature. I've lost that functionality in 5.0, but have not taken the time to research it yet. I've not found the voice dailing to be accurate or useful in the past.

The other apps I use, which are few, all run fine. Among those that I run are google mail, google maps, miniSafe, Opera, WorldMate Live, gFlashPro and Xenozu.

I also did perform the memory format operation as noted elsewhere on the board to address the rebooting issue, and it seems to have worked as I haven't seen my phone go through those boot loops.

I also installed the latest version of BBM as, if I recall correctly, version 5.0 of it was not part of this OS. I could be mistaken on that though - can't remember.

All in all, the new OS is pretty with many minor interface enhancements. It did take me several hours to make the transition when factoring in backing up, installing new OS, formatting, and reinstalling applications.

Cheers,

We need a new 5.0.0.xxx leak please.

Someone sacrifice a spring chicken and do the pagan OS leak dance please.

Who's our enforcer? Break some kneecaps man. Shake loose a leak someone!

But seriously...

I am still on 230. Pretty good, but the bugs are getting annoying.

I read too many reports of 273 instability. True?

When do us Tour owners get a 300 level leak?

Are we being punished for having such sleek, cool, new devices?

The 9700 is out now. We've been knocked back a notch. You can give us leak now...

Or a real Verizon release?

Please?

I've previously jumped to a 5.0xx update for my 9000. It worked well, however, I am an addict when it comes to my viigo rss feed and it didn't work when I updgraded it work freeze the phone. I currently run viigo aplha (I don't think it really makes a difference now that they have podcast support on the normal beta). Any idea if the new 5.0xxx updates will run viigo? Anyone currently run that on their updated bold?
