New BES + new Blackberry: old website records gone?

I had a Blackberry 7250 (roughly- 7200 something) that I use for work and I used the browser (not sure if it was the Blackberry browser or another type of internet access) to do some personal Web browsing. Nothing "bad"- but I don't want records of personal anything available for eyes at work to see.

I then got a new Blackberry (a 9630, more or less), and I wiped the old Blackberry before activating the new one. I activated the new one with the same phone number as I had for the old one, and I noticed that emails seemed to be carried over to the new one. A few days later, the work computer system used for work Blackberries was replaced with a new BES. The new Blackberry was wiped in connection with the change to the new BES.

Can I be pretty sure that every record of my Internet use from the old Blackberry and on the old Blackberry computer system (not sure if was a BES or something else) is gone?

Thank you.

Anyone see this message this AM on their user's devices? I only ask as I am speaking to RIM and was told many other Admins are calling with the same 'known' issue today. I've been escalated to Tier 3 and as I wait for an answer, I thought I might ask the forum to see if anyone has already jumped through these hoops. The only change, the recent Windows push this week that were applied last night.

The server returned the following error: "Access denied: Insecure SSL Request". Your MDS has been configured to deny SSL requests to servers that have certificates which are untrusted or expired. Try using Device Side SSL which can be modified in your TLS options. It pops up when my users unlock their device or when they are going through their emails.

So Microsoft has officially release Exchange 2010. How long will it take for RIM to support it? And will this most likely only be a BES 5.0 supported Setup? I know I have heard about the RIM compatibility Matrix but I have never seen it or know where to find it.

I am trying to plan out our 2010 Budget and it's time for us to upgrade our current Exchange server 2003. So we won't be doing this until the middle of next year probably, but I want to know if I will also need to upgrade our BES from 4.1.6 at the same time.

Thanks for the help.

I got a Tour from Sprint last Friday. In that time, I have managed to use the browser once, on Sunday. Outside of that, it won't browse. It tries and then tells me "Connection to the server timed out".

I gave it to my admin (I'm director of IT where I work) to see if he would have any better luck. He got with Sprint with no luck but, after, managed to get it to browse by doing a wipe and redoing the enterprise activation. The only reason I know he was successful is he handed it to me with the browser open to MSN.com. I got out of the browser, went back in and it would no longer browse.

Everything else works ... email, phone as a modem, even the links to facebook and nfl live worked to download and install those apps. It's just the browser.

I'm out of ideas to troubleshoot this. I don't really know the underworkings of the blackberry so I'm hoping someone here can run me through some lower level troubleshooting to see if we can find the problem.

If you have suggestions, please feel free.

Hi all

Am am planning to upgrade our BES servers to v5. I have the following configurations:

Two BES servers running 4.1.6 MR7 and a seperate SQL 2005 box with the database.

One BES has 360 users, the other has 20, so 380 in total.

following reading the documentation, and this forum and getting myself totally confused, the upgrade plan I intend to take is:

Move the 20 users from the second BES onto the first one.
Remove BES 4.1.6 from the second BES and install 5.0 pointing it to the existing database.
Move some users from the 4.1.6 BES to the new 5.0 BES and make sure it works.
Move all users on first BES to the 2nd BES
Remove BES 4.1.6 from the first BES and install 5.0

Is that a viable solution for the upgrade, or have I misunderstood the instructions?
My other question is when I install the 5.0 on the first server I am upgrading, will it update the database and if it does, will the 4.1.6 BES still be able to work?

thanks in advance

Hello all,

Something interesting I found about 15 minutes ago. I have been testing the remote wipe and disable feature on my BES 5.0 install.

I configured a BIS Email account on my bold 9000, which created a seperate AOL icon for private email. Good. I then activated the device on my BES, and my corporate email flowed into message folder. Good. I then remote wiped the device, all worked fine, data removed. The config for the private account remained, but emails deleted, which I believe is fine. I then re-activated the device which also worked fine.

HOWEVER, now, instead of the BIS (private) emails only going to their "mail area", they now also go into the message folder. So I assume the "wipe" command which takes it back to factory settings has removed something which differentiated between the 2. Any ideas why this is? It would definitely be a pain for users if this happens to them also...

Ok so we have a strange scenario.

We have our own BES 4.1.6. Everyone in the company also has OCS R2 which is hosted.

We are actually the hosting provider, We provide hosted Exchange, BES, OCS,Sharepoint, CRM, Unified Comms etc etc. We have decided to eat our own dog food and move everything across to our hosted platform.

BES will be one of the last things for us to move and it will be quite some time until our BES and OCS server will be within the same enviroment.

I have been searching for some more detailed documentation on OCS and Blackberry. I have found a few things about how R2 is no longer compatible with Blackberry OCS.

Does anyone know of a standalone client for Blackberry that will allow you to connect directly to a hosted OCS server? From what I can tell the client is coded to attempt to connect via the BES directly to an internal OCS server with no option to configure this.

The standard Microsoft OCS client allows you to manually specify the sign in server, is there anyway to do this with the Blackberry OCS client?

Thanks

Our BES server is starting to die and we need to rebuild it and migrate all of the users to a new one. The current one is in pretty bad condition so instead of just moving it to a new server I actually want to build a new one and put BES on from scratch.

My plan was to build another concurrent completely seperate BES server in it's own blackberry domain and it's own SRP key and then once it's tested use the blackberry migrator to move the users across onto it.

I have read on the internet that in other cases similar to this, the carrier can provide you with a temporary SRP key to do the migration with.

I have spoken with my carrier and they are saying that I have to purchase another copy of BES Enterprise, which doesn't seem right.

Is anybody able to confirm whether the carrier are in fact correct, or whether it is possible to be supplied with an extra SRP key from RIMM ?

I remove the user from the old Bes, migrate the mailbox from 03 to 07, open outlook and test a send / receive to make sure the messaging is going through, and then attempt to add the user to the Bes5 box, but it keeps pulling up the old mail server.

I've bounced all the services, I've restart the box all together, I've checked replication on the GCs / DCs and that happens within seconds of moving the server (obviously because outlook finds it's way to the new EX server) But it's like the Bes - just takes it's lonesome time - and after about 2hrs or so of me adding / deleting / adding / deleting / adding / deleling, and checking the users messaging server it finally bounces over to the correct one and I can do an enterprise activation.

Problem is I'm in a pinch right now, and I need this to happen ASAP, I have sales people in here for just the remainder of the day and I need to move them all over to the new server.

But this whole new BES idea is all new to me. so I'm gonna shoot some stupid questions which prolly will make some /facepalm.

There will still be a week or two till my number gets ported to the new and blackberry supporting carrier.
But i'm wondering, would there be any problem enterprise activating the unit now before the number is ported, or will some bizzarre issues rise whenever the new carrier comes inn?
I've gotten a email from our IT department with the enterprise activation code and several steps to do.

From what I see I do get 3G and EDGE, and the "registered with the wireless network" message. And service book actually does contain:
WAP2 browser config
MMS config
WAP2 Transport
WAP Push Config
WI-Fi TCP/IP Browser
My opinion is that this is a risk as you have an external mail system pushing data to a device which should be contained within a secure corporate network.

I am trying to put together a list of possible risks as to why this should not be done, but finding indepth technical details or reasons as to why this should not be done seems a bit thin.

Can anyone help with providing any answers or opinions on this?

Thanks

We've got the cheaper version of BES (4.1.4.143) that does not allow HTML mail. When we receive one of those types of messages it's all ugly URL's (basic text).

My question is this. (2 user BES installation, so cost is a factor)

Does the more expensive version of BES support HTML? I read that it did (among a few other nice features).

Does everyone who's out there using BIS get html mail?

What about in-line photo's? They don't come through on my version of BES, how about the more expensive version?

I think I paid about 700 bucks to get BES running and I think I'm looking at thousands for the better version. Need to know if it's even a consideration. The 2 users are the company owners who notice the whole html thing and find it annoying as heck.
