Most are released in 10-30min, but one last night continued for over 60min and caused the controller to restart the Domino server.

Afternoon!

I was wondering if anyone knew how to create a custom Policy.bin file. Here is the situation:

A group of 100+ people are going to drop their PAGERS for BlackBerry 8520 devices. We want them to be restricted to only email, but dont want to pay our hosting company the per user charge to put them on a BES. We intend on using BIS/POP to get the mail to the devices, but we want to do a one-time load of an IT Policy. My plan is to upload the Policy.bin file into Desktop manager, similar to the way that we use a blank policy.bin to remove an IT Policy.

My only holdup to executing this is how i can generate said populated policy.bin file. I've tried searching, but blank ones are all everyone talks about ;)

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Hi, we use Spotlight 7.4 for monitoring both our Exchange 2003 / BES 4.1.6 environments.

It's actually very good, a little prone to over report & alert at times but with the right tuning we have come to rely on it. The product is more slanted towards the Exchange side but in terms on Blackberry is carries out regular round trip tests and keeps and eye on performance and pertinent event log errors.

I've been looking at running some more specific Blackberry monitoring tools alongside Spotlight, I'm going to be looking at Boxtone and Zenprise as these supposedly offer dedicated BB monitoring of all BES type services as opposed to being an addon.

Give me a shout if you need any more info.

Greetings-

I'm doing some failover testing, and found that the "Change primary instance to standby instance" feature doesn't work (for me, at least).

When I try to do the swap via BAS, the primary switches to Standby, but the Standby server stays in standby mode, and they both are listed in "Running - Failover pending" mode, and the standby server reports that it can't connect to the primary:

The standby BlackBerry Enterprise Server cannot connect to the computer hosting the primary BlackBerry Enterprise Server
They both sit there in Standby mode for a few minutes, and then the Primary re-asserts itself as the Primary again (which is good, technically).

Scanning the BES alert logs on both servers shows that they're having problems connecting to each other, but they're both on the same network, subnet, and even the same rack. Not sure what to do....

So either the dataplan is still messed up or it was connected to Desktop Manager with BIS options.

Remove user from BES, remove server data and wait 20 min, then add back in.
Wipe device and try again.

If that fails then re install desktop manager with BES options.

Some users have this problem:
they receive on their blackberry a message from a mailbox named "Secretary" with the name of "Mr Smith".
All the messages sent to mailbox "Secretary" are automatically forwarded to 5 users using a rule created on owa.
All the five users receive the message with the correct display name in their mailbox on outlok but on the blackberry they see in the "from" field "Mr Smith" instead of "Secretary"...
Because in exchange message flow the display name don't change i suppose there is something in the flow between mailbox and blackberry that change the display name even if it is very strange...
i've think to search in the bes log files if there is the trace of the message flow eg:
user "danny" as receive a new message from "sue"
or something similar that can help me to see if the display name is changed...
Have you any ideas to troubleshoot this problem ??
