Hey everyone,

First off...8820 with 4.5.0.174 platform 2.7.0.92.

This all started yesterday, my wife had emailed me a picture from our honeymoon to look at, while the file was downloading I looked to check on its progress and noticed that the screen had gone white with a small red "x" in the top left. I tried to hit end and get back to the home screen, but nothing happened so I pulled the battery.

The phone restarted but immediately froze at like 86% on verifying security software. I gave it some time, thinking it was just sluggish from the crash but it never moved. I noticed that the phone did establish a connection to AT&T, but it wouldn't respond or move from the 86%.

Long story short this happened all day yesterday, as I tried repeatedly pulling the battery and hoping that the phone would make it past. At time it would freeze at different percentages and for a while it was freezing at 100% "security tests passed."

What I did find though was that if the phone received an email or a calendar reminder (but not a BBM) that would push it through the freeze. However, it wouldn't last more than a couple of minutes after that before it would lock up again. I managed to make a phone call in the afternoon and was on the phone for about 20 mins, but when I went to hang up the phone was frozen showing a call time of 5mins and couldn't be disconnected unless I pulled the battery.

So this morning I figured it was time to update the OS. I managed to get the phone past the verifying security software long enough to backup the phone and do a quick sync with my outlook. After a wipe from JLCmdr, I updated with the latest OS from the forums today....4.5.0.294 platform 2.7.0.105.

Murphy's law....it's still freezing. My phone's been at 84% on the verifying security software for the last 15mins. When it first boots the "new setup wizard" pops up because it is a new OS but then disappears as the phone goes through its security software verification.

Anyone have any ideas? Is this thing completely shot? Time for a 9700?

Thanks for the help.

I've recently upgrade the OS on my 8800, and it in the process, my BBM dissappeared.

I've reinstalled bbm manually (ota), but all my contacts are obviously missing.

I have a backup file (.ipd I think) that should have all my bbm contacts.

Is there an easy way to get my bbm contacts from the ipd file back on to my berry?

I paired my new BlueAnt ST3 bluetooth hands free speakerphone (to be placed on the car's sunvisor) with BB 8830 WE and then decided to update voice dialing number recognition feature:

options - voice dialing - menu - adapt digits

After that, BB wouldn't recognize any voice commands, names from the address book which had been recognized before, resulted in a message:

sorry, no match found

In the past, I could never get BB voice dialing to recognize numbers properly, but there were never any issues with names.

Subsequent soft reset resolved the problem. This might be a software bug, my version is 4.5.0.169, unless it's a unique problem on my unit or it has something to do with BlueAnt itself.

Hi guys.....
I have been using a 8800 for about a year now.
I recently purchased a 8520 and found it far to light and the keypad to small and hence after 2 days I sold it on.
I have just purchased a 8310 and although I prefer it to the 8520 its still not upto the build quality of the 8800.
To me the 8800 is perfect in size and weight. Not to heavy but you certainly know its in your pocket.
I recon the sim card will be coming out of the 8310 and going back in the 8800 by the end of the weekend
Cheers,
Wayne.

Hello there all, new to this forum :)
I have just recieved a new 8520 curve on my upgrade from O2.
I currently have a 8800 for around 2 and a half years... I dont have any problems with this phone and still think i can last it for another year.

From what i have researched, the 8520 doesnt have 3g or GPS.
whereas my 8800 has GPS but still no 3g...sometimes i do use the gps...
The 8520 has a WIFI which i wont use...as i am always travelling.

1 problem i have faced with my 8800 is that when im driving and a lorry, bus passes or i pass under a small bridge, then the phonecall cuts off...
I am not sure this is a problem with the 8800 or is that generall in all phones(bb's).

So my main reason for upgrading to the 8520 would be for this phonecall cut off reason...Is there any difference or improvement in the 8520 that could solve this issue... or does the 8520 have better phone quality, reception then the 8800..

Thank you

I want to transfer my 7250 data to my 8830. With the 7250 I was using version 4.0 of the Blackberry Desktop Manager. I upgraded to version 4.2.2 that came with the 8830. That recognizes both devices. I backed up the 7250. When I set about to restore the 8830, first I get a warning that old data will be replaced by new data. I OK that. I see a screen flash past. Then the icon in the system tray blinks for a few seconds. When it's done, I look on the 8830 and it still has the old data. Do I need to wipe the original 8830 of its data first? (My friend gave it to me and it still has his data.) One forum thread says I can do that in Security Options > General Settings > wipe handheld. Another one said Security Options > Wipe handheld. I am not finding the Wipe handheld command at all in mine. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

I have been using Verizon Blackberry Storms (plural because they have all had something wrong with them) since May and I recently got fed up with their problems. I bought a Verizon Blackberry World Edition 8830 on ebay and I would like to use that instead. However, the World still has somebody else's phone number on it and nothing happens when I put in my sim card. How do I switch from the Storm to the World? I tried going to Verizon's website and entering the ESN#, but since I didn't buy my blackberry from a Verizon store, I don't have the receipt # that is required. Is there a way to remove the phone number that's currently on the device and replace it with my own so I can use the phone? Thanks!

but i thought i would trow this out to the whole group

is it possible to add different members of your company without having to repeadly enter the same address and work infromation
say i add bob with our company info
then i want add mary with our same company info
is there a way to copy bob's company info over without copy cut and paste to mary in each line of address/city/state/zip/country, phone and each and every person after? maybe a blank company contact over and over?
