Default Reception on a 700t charm? - 10-10-2004, 11:34 AM

Hello,

I live in NYC and have Tmobile service.
I just bought a used 7230 3 months ago. I was a former nokia user and have always enjoyed nokia RF capabilities compared to other phones.
Anyway I was nervous to buy a BB because I need good RF reception.
I use my phone 24/7 for calls and email.- I was pleasently surprised with the 7230 rf. Although it was not as good / strong / clear /loud as my nokia 7610- it is totally acceptable. Ok here is my question-

Is the RF for the new Charm as good as 7230? in NYC ?
Has anyone in NYC had both phones for a real comparison?
Also is the upgrade worth it?
I am happy with the 7230 - but see some of its faults-

Please advise

Thanks
in advance

I can't comment on the NYC area, but the RF is about the same between my 7100t (charm) and former 7230. My house is a real challenge spot for all cell phones and the 7230 and 7100 provide the same reception. I have experienced better reception in my car driving around with the 7100, but it could be my imaginaion. I don't have any scientific info for you I can just say it isn't any worse than the 7230.

In my experience, it's definitely as good as the 7230 - I haven't had any reception problems at all.

I'm loving mine. I love the following additional features that don't exist on the 7230:
- speakerphone
- bluetooth
- IM applications
- polyphonic sounds (nice to have)
- bright hi-res screen (even though it sucks outside in the bright sun)

The 7100 display quality is the best I've ever experienced on a mobile device. The 7230 beats it in direct sunlight though as the 7230 is a reflective display vs the backlit display on the 7230. But I absolutely love how I grab the 7100 in low light or darkness and boom it lights up and is just gorgeous. Love the light up on activity feature of the 7100. The only hangup you may experience is the "SmartType". I missed the full keyboard of the 7230 but at 4 days into my 7100 I think I am just as fast now and getting faster/more accustomed. There is a beauty to the "SmartType" but some people may not be able to adjust especially if they are very accustomed to the full keyboard.

Depends what you consider a mobile device. While I can't compare them side-by-side, I'd imagine a PPC is just as good if not better than a 7100. However, when compared to existing BB's, and cell phones, the 7100 is much better. Like I said, it's on the level of a good PPC's LCD.

I live in an area with fair-to-poor T-Mo coverage. In the room I'm in now, by the window, my E105 would at best get 1 bar. The 7100t gets 1 bar, sometimes 2. However, what counts is how it works during a call. I'd say the 7100t is as good, possibly *slightly* better than my Samsung E105, and noticably better than my old S105. A friend of mine had a Sidekick (not II) in here a while ago and couldn't get any signal at all.

So to sum it up, as far as I can tell, the reception of a 7100t is pretty good.
