Default Is Device usable after service is disabled? - 04-18-2008, 03:40 AM

A friend of mine lost his device, and the carrier disabled the BIS service on the device. Does this mean that the device is no longer usable for a different carrier or even a different simcard?

It is my understanding that the device PIN & imei numbers will be placed on a blacklist.

It is also very inlikely that a new user would be able to set up a new BIS account cos the carrier would refuse to release the PIN to enable a new user to set up a BIS account.

They may be able to insert a sim and use it to make calls and texts though.

Thanks so much. But i understand for BES, you can wirelessly lock the device. Isn't it possible to do the same for BIS?

Is it RIM that blacklists, or the carrier. because if it is the carrier, then a different carrier may be able to activate the device. that means it is not recoverable.
