Default Orange France theme on 7100 handheld - 08-22-2005, 12:47 AM

Previously, if the Orange theme was installed (net_rim_theme_119.cod), you were unable to activate it.

Anyhow, you will need the small icons theme (net_rim_theme_blackberry.cod) installed in order to activate the Orange France theme. For this, you can either download the themes from someone who has posted them on this forum somewhere, or you can simply install a 4.0.2 OS for the 7290 onto your PC, or you can install the 4.0.2 JDE software onto your PC... take your pick. Copy the two files mentioned above, net_rim_theme_119.cod and net_rim_theme_blackberry.cod, to the Java directory for your 7100 software.

7100 Java directory (version numbers may vary):
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7100-v4.0.2.36_P1.8.0.139\Java

7290 Java directory (version numbers may vary):
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7290-v4.0.2.36_P1.8.0.139\Java

In the 7100 installation directory (one step up from the above path), open BlackBerry.alx with Notepad and edit the following lines:

Code:
                <fileset Theme="Normal" Colour="True" KeyboardType="Qwerty" Java="1.0">
                        <files>
                                net_rim_theme_blackberry.cod
                        </files>
                </fileset>
and

Code:
                <fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Qwerty" Java="1.0" _vendorID="1|119">
                        <files>
                                net_rim_theme_119.cod
                        </files>
                </fileset>
to be

Code:
                <fileset Theme="Normal" Colour="True" KeyboardType="Reduced" Java="1.0">
                        <files>
                                net_rim_theme_blackberry.cod
                        </files>
                </fileset>
and

Code:
                <fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Reduced" Java="1.0">
                        <files>
                                net_rim_theme_119.cod
                        </files>
                </fileset>
Now open Desktop Manager and it should prompt you automatically to update the 4.0.2 Core Software. Just go through the procedure and it will load both of these for you. Et voila...

I just love finding things purely by stupid mistake... hehe.

If you happen to grab the Blackberry JDE 4.0.2, copy the net_rim_theme_blackberry_large.cod file in the fashion mentioned above and edit the following line:

Code:
                <fileset Theme="Large" Colour="True" KeyboardType="Qwerty" Java="1.0">
                        <files>
                                net_rim_theme_blackberry_large.cod
                                net_rim_theme_blackberry.cod
                        </files>
                </fileset>
You want to edit the Theme and KeyboardType tags to be:

Code:
                <fileset Theme="Normal" Colour="True" KeyboardType="Reduced" Java="1.0">
                        <files>
                                net_rim_theme_blackberry_large.cod
                                net_rim_theme_blackberry.cod
                        </files>
                </fileset>
This looks much nicer, imo, than the Small Icons theme.

Jibi,

do you have a version of the small icon theme for the 7100 which the calculator works on, when I tried it last I used to get an error message!?

The 72xx calculators do not work properly, although they are now working with 4.0.2 version of the software. You can find it listed as net_rim_theme_blackberry.cod from the instructions listed above on how to get the Orange theme file.

Here are all 8 themes that can be loaded onto the 7100 handheld. I will most likely do a new post that can take the place of the current 7100 themes sticky post with updated, permanent links for the files and all that good crap.

This is the best themes solution to date! I've installed all of them using this method and it works great. The calculator has some issues and the handheld locks up with a spinning hour glass the first time you try to select a picture to use as a desktop. I have to turn the handheld off and back on to fix it and then I can select pictures ok, but so far, no other issues. good work, guys!

I am about to put up a 'definitive guide' thread for BlackBerry handhelds and all 8 available themes. Give me a few more minutes. My eyes are going blind from sitting in the dark here looking at XML for the past few hours. hehe.

I downloaded the new themes, loaded them to my 7100t and played around with them. I switched back to the t-mobile theme and now the date and time still show but not in the same font or in bold. The date/time seems to be bigger than before and not bolded.

How do I get it back to the way it was (running 3.8 btw)

you will most likely need to use javaloader to load the net_rim_theme_tmobile_240x260.cod file from your 3.8 installation.

Dawg, look in my other post and get the ZIP from there. From what I can see, from the simulator for the 7520, they do work. Whether or not they will in real world usage, I do not know...

I think my next little adventure, albeit a stupid one, is to load the JDE OS to my handheld to see what happens.

Default Orange calculator error - 08-26-2005, 09:32 AM

I uploaded the Orange theme the other night and it works fine so far, with the exception of the calculator. Error message is "Uncaught exception: java.lang.illegalArgumentException

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Jim

The calculator won't work.

El Chino, go into the Applications then click your trackwheel and click on Modules. Its listed as net_rim_theme_119.
