Default Nextel 7100i Enable GPS and Upgrades? - 07-21-2008, 07:34 PM

Hi, a buddy has a Nextel 7100i BlackBerry and he wants to know to enable the GPS function on it. And my question where does he go to check for software upgrades or is that handled automatically?

Thanbks,

Welcome to the forums!

The 7100i can use TeleNav for GPS (aka Sprint Navigation), for $10/mo. I'm pretty sure the GPS portion of Google Maps will not work on a 7100i.

As for upgrades, check Sprint Software Downloads. The latest for the 7100i is v4.1.

hey there, I have a software named Spot For BlackBerry, it’s pretty cool, and if you have Internet access in your phone it will temporarily download Google earth maps!!!, look for it, the installation is pretty straight forward and they have a trail that has all the functions, but only works for 5 min (you can restart it the times you want).

The down side to using the GPS on the phone is that it drains your battery 75% faster, its grate if you have a car charger!!

To enable the GPS Function, you go to Options>Location Based Services> set Privacy Settings to "Unrestricted".

But I recommend you to set the Privacy Settings to "By Permission", this way each time you access the software you choose to use, it will ask you if you would like to access the GPS resources on your phone, it will somewhat save you battery. I have a fair share of experience on the use of the GPS on this phone because I like to Geocache, the software I use is Spot for BlackBerry, it is very cheap and it worth every buck you pay for it.

Have a nice Sunday, God bless all
