Default 0 new voice mail messages? - 10-06-2005, 05:58 PM

Does anyone else get the 0 new messages dialog pop-up after they have listened to their voice mail? I have 4.0.2.36 running on my 7100G (Cingular) and find this quite annoying. I have called Cingular support but they are pretty useless. Their answer to everything is remove the battery and SIM card and try again.

I've been getting this message for a long time and you have to press 'cancel' to clear it before you can send the v.mail any more tones/key commands, so if you aren't watching the screen it can be annoying since you need to stop what you're doing and deal with the message.

I haven't found any way to turn off the notifications dialog on the device, it seems like it's a server side thing. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm right there with you. I can't figure out why it is necessary to tell me that I have no more voicemail messages after I've just listened to them! If anyone knows of a fix or workaround for this issue, I would love it.

Are you on cingular too? I'm wondering if it's a voicemail setting that Cingular owns and has set for some other reason (like to clear the voicemail counter on some phones)?

Ok, let me figure out the scenario as I'm from a different carrier.

John Doe tries to call you, you don't answer. He gets forwarded to your VoiceMail. He leave a voice mail. How does the Voice Mail Notification come to your handheld? Do you get a Reel-to-reel icon or a text message?

Do you also get a pop-up stating you have a VM?

So you go into your VM system. "You have one new message" and you listen to the message. End of message the system says "You have no more messages" End the call.

Does something happen after that on the phone?

Yes, on both accounts. When someone leaves you a VM, you get a popup on your BB saying that you have 1 Voicemail messages (or however many you currently have if you had ones in there already that you had not listened to). Once you listen to the message(s) and end the call, you get ANOTHER popup saying that you have 0 Voicemail messages. It's by far the stupidest thing I've ever seen (not to mention annoying as your message indicator sound goes off again). I am on Cingular, but I do not know if this happens with any other carrier.

If someone knows of a way to stop this, please don't keep it a secret.

And once the dialog comes up no key presses (like end call) are allowed until the dialog is cleared! Just plain annoying.

MrFuzzy, are you on cingular or another carrier. so far, this seems to be a cingular 'thing', not a 7100G 'thing'. I'm still leaning toward this being a carrier notification setting, and Cingular may have it set for some legitimate reason (like maybe it's the only way to clear the message indicator), otherwise they just plain don't know how to use their software.
