Number of Rings -
01-30-2005, 09:26 AM
Hiya All
First of all im sorry if this is a dumb question or one that someone has already asked, ive searched the forum but didnt find the anwser.
Ive got got a 7100T in the UK to replace my previous colour traditonal blackberry(7230).
I still have a problem that existed on the previous device, if im not with the phone or its in a deep pocket or bag etc, by the time i have got to it to anwser, it has already diverted to voice mail. Ive looked in the profiles and the option i found is number of beeps, which only goes up to three. Is there any way to get it to ring for a longer period before diverting. (I did wonder if this might be a function of the network rather than the phone)??
THanks for any help you can offer, apart from that im having great fun with my new toy! i cant belive how much nicer the screen is.
Anyways, Thanks for any help and sorry if its a daft question!
Edd

hey Edd,
it is a network feature, so talk to your provider, and who knows, you may even find out it's something like what Bell has for its customers in Canada.. and if it is, feel free to report back in case of future fellow peers on the same network with the same question..
for Bell Mobility, it's *94 + (number of rings desired eg. 8 for 8 rings) + send = (hear a long beep)
whereas i heard that one of the gsm providers in canada requires you to call in to their customer service to get that changed..
cheers,
P dizzo

ok thanks for your help. Ive contacted Tmobile
On the handset key in the following and press the call button and you should recive an onscreen message saying Call divert wait time updated.
**61*44051(insert your tell number here starting with the 7)**25#
25 is the highest value.
Hope this is off use to someone else.
Thanks
Edd

I tried this and I am getting the following message: "Supplementary service error: General Error."
Have any ideas about this? And just to make sure I know if I am typing the right stuff, what do you mean by "insert your tell number starting with the 7"? Sorry if I am just being slow on the uptake. I was thinking that meant my phone number without the area code and tried that, didn't work. So I used the area code and that didn't work either.
Thanks for the help.

In the UK all mobile numbers have an 07
e.g 07984 555 666
If that was your number you would type
**61*44051984555666**25#
If its not working i suggest you ring the service provider, i know they sometimes have different codes for different blocks of numbers.
Hope that helps.
Thanks
Edd

Well, yes, there is that small matter!
(hums national anthem)
Its interesting, when i unpacked the device i thought id made a mistake getting it but the more i use it the more of an improvment it is over the previous models!

It doesn't appear that the divert (call forwarding) GSM Commands that actually change something work for US TMO. The status commands work (*#61#, etc). Do post what you hear from TMO, please. It may be something they have to change.
The 25 mentioned above is the number of seconds (can be roughly formatted to 1/5 for the ring - so 5 rings). 30 is the actual maximum, but anything above 25 will likely charge you a minute of airtime for missing a call.

I had asked this question of TMO support (in the U.S.). I was given the following "code" to change the time that the phone will ring before transferring to voicemail.
I was given the following:
**61*18056377243**XX# - where XX equals time in seconds
**61*18056377243**30# - should mean that the phone will ring for 30 seconds before transferring to voicemail. I was told that 30 seconds is the longest time limit available.
Note: I believe that the 805 number above is the voicemail messaging system. I don't believe that this was specific to me.

ahh, that does make sense. the number in the middle is supposed to be for your voicemail number. in most cases, with most carriers, your own number was your mailbox. with TMO here in the states, they do use a central VM mailbox number.
