looking for opinions on the 7100i -
03-28-2006, 07:42 PM
I am looking for general and specific opinions and suggestions on the 7100i. I am currently a nextel subscriber and I have not been happy with nextel coverages. Has anyone found the 7100i to be better than other nextel phones or previous blackberry models? Please feel free to advise and comment. Thanks to all.

Wirelessly posted (BB 7520: BlackBerry7100i/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/103)
Well nextel bb's are well known for their superior rf. I love my 7100i. Great display when compared to the 7520 and 7510 models. If you don't already know you will need a specific bb data plan in addition to your voice plan.

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago and got some helpful responses.
Sadly, Telus STILL hasn't released the damn phone so despite the glowing reviews in my linked thread, the device is unattainable. Very frustrating.

well, the BB it is nice, but i get alot of complaint from my friends, people can't DC me in, or call in while i am checking my mail or just using data, call will go straight to voice mail.....because the phone is constantly transfering data.....other than that i love the phone, and they need to improve more on the PTT button and setup, the respond time is slower than any other regular nextel phone......

The data a3- message can be recieved on any nextel that is doing anything with data....I had the 870 and never did anyhting with data and everyone said that they woudl get that for hours when trying to get ahold of me....
I do think that the PTT is a little slower on the BB but everything else makes up for it

the data thing is hard to say, i do get them while i was still using my 860, 870, 930, but i got alot more complain when i am using the BB, due to instant messages, checking emails and constantly on web,
i have to say BB7100i has alot of small bugs, but i am still loving it!

I love my 7100i. Superior display over my 7520, and more usable then my i730 or i860.

i hear ya brotha! my 7100i gives me the same crap. i keep thinking if i stand on one leg and type with my nose it will get the password right!
none the less, a cool upgrade from my 7520. i've had this puppy for a week now and impressed. just remember that to lock the phone or place it in the holster all the way. it kept making calls on it's own.

I love my 7100i. Great display and better size than my 7520. The Sure Type takes a little time getting used but it's worth it just for the size. Mine does the funky thing with the password too. It has its faults I guess but what phone doesn't?

I basically am a phone nut. Ive had every new model that nextel came out with.
Being this is my first BB I cannot compare to the other but I will say this, I LOVE THIS THING.
Like was stated above, there are small bugs that will annoy you at first but you get used to them.
Whether possible or not, I get so much better service with my BB7100i. Spots in my home I was never able to make a call from I now can. Also noticed how much clearer and louder the calls are. The email service is such a great thing to have for someone always on the run as myself. Also, things like the OperaMini web-browser (in my opinion) make surfing the web an enjoyment rather than a hassle.
I booked my hotel room while on the way there over the net on my BB when I was down in miami.
If you are going to use the features the BB gives you, I recommend it 100%. I also know people who didnt utilize its features and it was a waste of $$ and not worth having this large of a phone.
I am a new-b and these are my opinons.

I personally like the 7100i better then any other Nextel phone, I get better service and less dropped calls and the internet browser is great...

As far as the voicemail password thing goes... I found that it doesn't work right if you are on speakerphone (if this is what your doing). Enter the password in before putting it on speakerphone.
I also thought that my 7520 had a little better reception than my 7100i. I stress LITTLE. But overall reception is great.

i had the i850, i860 and now the 7100i, and the 7100i gets better coverage. but, you cant send SMS with it, which is a HUGE downside for me, but EVERYTHING else about the phone is great

yup, i tend to check my voice mail on the speakerphone, so i guess thats why, the fix to it is to hold each # longer and wait 1 sec in between each input, that'll do the trick! but whoever in our car would look at you funny because holding each # longer makes a loud noise....=D
or you can enter the password before you put on speaker like said above
