Default registering my BB, and insurance? - 08-21-2006, 02:38 PM

I bought a pre-owned BB 7100t on ebay. I'm looking to register my phone with BB and also get insurance. Is this able to be done by calling Blackberry?

OK - a few things. I guess we have to start at the beginning.

The maker of the BlackBerry is Research in Motion, referred to as RIM.

There is no company called BlackBerry.

You need to set up your BB with your mobile carrier. If you bought a 7100t, odds are it is locked to T-Mobile.

Do you have an existing wireless carrier?

RIM does not provide insurance.

If you have t-mobile service, you will need to call them and have your account imei switched to your new BB, and then they can also add the blackberry data plan for you to register it to the BB network.

As for the insurance, you can attempt to add it through the carrier, but usually they won't insure a used device, but you can try

NJBlackberry, my appologies..wrote this post in a hurry, so the RIM and Blackberry mixup is my stupidity. What i have is an unlocked 7100t on the cingular network...i feel like no service will be willing to help me, since i'm using a Tmobile phone on the cingular network...

If you already have a Cingular SIM card, call Cingular and ask them to add the BlackBerry Data Plan to your account.

If you do not have a SIM card, see if a local Cingular dealer will get you set up.

You can put in a SIM card with a voice plan and all you will have is voice and SMS/text.

Without a BlackBerry Data Plan, you have no Internet or e-mail.

RIM manufactures the devices and provides the devices to the various wireless providers. Cingular would be the one who provides you the services, i.e. data plan, phone plan etc.

If you want your manufactured device to work like a phone/PDA you will need to contact Cingular to have that happen. Follow NJBlackBerry advice on the SIM card question . . .
