Default OS Release 4.2.1.154/4.2.1.96 for 7130g/c (GSM only) - 06-15-2007, 11:29 AM

New realease for the 7130c and 7130g (GSM models only)

Software For BlackBerry 7130g(TM) BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.1.154 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.2.1.154
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.2.1.96
  • Software Platform: 2.3.0.78
  • File name: 7130gM_PBr4.2.1_rel154_PL2.3.0.78_A4.2.1.96_AT&T.e xe
  • File size: 61.86MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download Here.

To install this update:

1. Make sure your Desktop Manager is up to date. Latest version can be downloaded Here
2. Download AND install to your PC the 4.2.1.96 OS package. Once downloaded double click on the file you downloaded to install to the PC.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in the BB, Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

*A backup and restore is part of the process so your data/apps will transfer over. After the OS loads it is not uncommon to see the spinning hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time on the device. The process can take 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data needs to be backed up and restored.

If you end up with a white screen with small icons with a circle and a line through it, simply plug back into the Desktop Manager, run Application Loader and reload the OS.

Good luck.

Edited Blackberry.alx for adding all vendor themes attached below. After installing the OS package to the PC simply replace the Blackberry.alx with the one attached below. Blackberry.alx is located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\7130-v4.2.1.96_P2.3.0.78

Default I See The "c" But Not The "g"...bummer - 06-21-2007, 03:48 AM

Greetings!

Eager was I to load this new OS in hopes it would stamp out my Desktop Manager synchronization bug infestation.

Alas, clicking through the link brought me to a dropdown list giving me options that included the 7130c and 7100g but not a 7130g.

Am I failing to see it?

Thanks.

Joyfully About Business,

Daniel

Originally AT&T had both the 7130c and the 7130g listed, but now that only the 7130c is listed, I bet you'd find the new OS listed there.

The OS for the 7130c and 7130g is interchangeable. This OS will work on either model. This OS will NOT work on a 7130e as the 7130e is a CDMA device. Also, this OS will not work on a 7100g either. So, as the title of the thread states it's for 7130g and 7130c.

This issue has been in all releases of 4.2 for the 7130s.

Also after upgrading my 7130c I lost my InternetBrowser option. All I have not is MediaNet and Broswer. Browser loads the WAP browser. I tried resending Service Books. Any ideas?

Has anyone noticed the slow response of the ALT-SYM combination? It is easily 5 times longer to access symbols. Annoying, that.

4.2 OS's have only one browser icon. You can change browsers by opening the browser and clicking on "Go To." Then click the wheel again and select "Change Browser." Then type in your web address.

Desktop Manager Crashed following the above posted instructions.

I ran the "AppLoader.exe" program located in the same directory as the XML file. It worked and upgraded my unit flawlessly. All applications work fine on it as well. Deleting the XML file caused the Desktop Program crash. (It would run correctly when copied back).

since this was released and it was previously thought that it wasn't, is there any chance that it may for the CDMA 7130?

Default 4.2.1 Hosed my 7130c - 08-03-2007, 01:42 PM

I followed all of John Clark's instructions (and then some)--even used the JL_Cmder to wipe the device several times, but at the end of the apploader install, the hourglass screen shows for about 3 minutes and then screen goes black with red LED on, and then toggles back to the hourglass screen again. This happens for hours on end. I tried loading with and without vendor.xml and on a Vista and XP machine. No luck. I cannot get this to upgrade my phone and now cannot get the phone working either. Am I missing something?

I had the same problem with my 8100. Initially my computer got stuck & the light on my 8100 blicked red about 2 or 3 times at a time. I tired several times to remove the batttery, and finally the 8100 came back to life with the original OS. I then tried to reinstall the OS v.101 and everything worked fine & the computer finished loading the update. But the white screen with the hourglass would not go away from my 8100. Even after unplugging & replaceng the battery, the hourglass was still there. When I connected the 8100 (with hourglass on screen) to my PC again in hopes on redoing the upgrade, the PC would not even recognized the 8100. I finally removed the battery again, restarted my PC & stared over again. This time the PC recognized my 8100 and after completing the upgrade, evrything worked fine. The phone was keypad locked after the upgrade. Good luck
