Default Unlocked 7290 - Out of Coverage, No Service - 08-11-2008, 06:38 PM

Ok guys, I'm kinda a newbie to the blackberry scene so these may not be the brightest questions, and I apologize. Anyway a couple months ago my phone breaks (which wasn’t a bb) so I went on ebay and purchased an unlocked bb 7290. I haven’t used this phone until right now because a buddy of mine gave me a flip phone to use until my bb arrived. When it came I encountered this prob and just sorta put it on the back burner, until now. On to the prob, I have att and just a talk and text plan but I was told that the bb would work as a replacement but it would just have those functions just nothing else. When I turn on the bb I turn the wireless on and it searches forever for a network but with no luck. It says out of coverage no service but does show that I have voicemail and my number. I typed ALTMEPD into the SIM Card Options and these settings popped up

SIM Disabled
Network Disabled
Network Subset Disabled
Service Provider Disabled
Corporate Disabled

My understanding is that since the network is disabled it should function fine. Please tell me what you guys think, thanks for any help.

It appears to be unlocked, so any sim card will work in the device. However, it sounds like it's just not picking up any signal. It's possible the device is defective. If you're in an area of strong signal and it still doesn't work, it's likely defective.

Thanks for your response John, do you think it would be worth it to replace the internal antenna or should I just cut my loss?
