I've had a sidekick 2 for the past 8 months or so. I decided to try out the blackberry mainly because i work on the road and need to open attachments. I got a really good deal on a 7100t with tmobile. So far im not very impressed. The blackberry seems cumbersome menu-wise (seems like you have to go through alot of menus to do anything) and not very intuitive. Would i be happier with the 7290? because right now im thinking of going back to the Sidekick 2. Any advice would be appreciated.

7105t in 2 weeks.

the sk2 aka the sh!t Kick.. dont know if you have had issues with it but the bb is alot more stable and faster email push...sk2 is for kids and blackberrys are for corporate grown ups...you decide..lol

Dude, I used to have a SK2, and before that, a SKI. I got a 7290 a little under a month ago, and I now wonder how I lived without it.

Go to the 7290 as fast as possible and never ever turn back.

It will probably help to read the FAQs and learn the shortcuts. The scroll wheels works well for one-handed use and you can do just about everything with the wheel but it's almost never the fastest way to do anything.

What does any of this have to do with morals?

I started out with a 7100t. It was freakin sweet. I would give it up for the world. Then I switched to Verizon for better data and coverage. I had to also switch to the 7250 because Verizon doesn't have (might soon) a 7100 variant. The 7200 series is really a lot nicer than the 7100. I love it even more. Mainly becuase I don't have to worry about SureType (great stuff but not for me) and I can see the screen in pretty much any lighting conditions; outside, inside, night time, pitch black. The interface is a bit more simple too. Not the IMO rather tacky theme. Those are just a few things, but I can tell you I am really happy with the 7250.

The 7100 is often the wrong device for a SideKick user. A Sidekick user who really likes the Sidekick for data, is usually not into the "phone" form factor of the 7100 - and will find a bad experience in the 7100 series.

For Sidekick users, I always recommend one of these three devices: 7290/7250/7520 to a Sidekick user. Since all 7100 carriers also often carry the 7290, I therefore recommend the 7290.

my personal opinion on the 7100 is that it's a waste of time and money for the following reasons....1) the battery life on my 7100t is about 1/2 as long as my 7230 2) you can't read the damn screen in the daylight (charming feature) 3) the volume on many (including mine) headsets isn't adequate for driving 4) the sound quality - particularly having to do with the background noise - is horrible on a lot of them 5) the sure type feature is great if you're only sending a few text messages here and there, but if you're trying to send a long email, rest assured you'll have the words are, see, boy, and not all mixed up if you're not paying close attention...the full keyboard is just plain easier to use.

Do the 7100 series blackberries have pin numbers too? Or is it something that the traditional thumb keys models have?

Kewl, I thought so, but i wanted to be sure. I need to start collecting PINS from my friends and co-workers so I can add them. Hopefully i will be able to import my address as a .csv file or something into the BIS. Its still up in the air if i will have a slot on our BES. I work for a nonprofit and they have to order their slots in increments of 5 (the current 5 is occupied), being a nonprofit they are extremely cheap.

If you do mostly text communication - the 7290 is your machine, if you do mostly voice, wait for the 7105t (or whatever it's called), the SideKick isn't even worth a look!

WHATS A 7105? FULL KEYBOARD?

I have/had a sidekick II as well (still have it but not using sim card). The Blackberry without a doubt has faster email push, but the thing that i like MOST about my 7290, is that with SK2 it has to connect to t-mobile network, and then try to connect to Danger's network. Living in NYC and coming out of the subway and waiting for a connection took anywhere up to 3 mins or so. It was a pain. The blackberry, since it only goes through t-mobile, connects INSTANTLY. I see GPRS appear within seconds of exiting, so it's that much more pleasureable using this device. Keyboard on SK2 is more comfortable, and the fact that it's wider is also a plus (for typing). It took (and still taking) me a while to get used to the blackberry keyboard. Blackberry also sucks less power, as I can use it constantly for about 2 full days without having to charge it, whereas the blackberry had to be charged every i don't know, 20 hours or so (even without heavy usage).

As far as voice between the two, my friend told me that there is more clarity with the blackberry. He's able to hear my "tone of voice" better. I sounded depressed on my sidekick when i spoke with him (but that really was not true), and now i sound more alive (which is good i guess ).

All in all, I'll give the blackberry a slighter edge because of the battery life. I personally like the form factor of SK2, and screen is even a bit more colorful on it. But Blackberry is a great device once you get used to it.

I also had an sk2 and I swear every month or so in the first 6mos I had some kinda issue with data....not to mention my keyboard started to seperate from the sk2...the only way I was able to get a new one was because the trackwheel stop working.... It was a nice device but just wasn't for me anymore!!!!

i have never owned a sk2 and will never own one i have gone from the nextel bb7520 to the 7105t and i love bb's and will never look at anything else again......the bb7520 was a great device for me the battery life was ok last me usually a day or a day and half, the keyboard setup was great.....and the reliability of the programming on the bb's is outstanding.....now on my 7105t i have the suretype and whoever said it was meant for a a message here and there its not true......i type atleast 60 to 90 messages including long emails a day since i work for the air force base down here in homestead, florida.....the abttery on the 7105t is outstanding this one with heavy email pusshing, messaging in and out dowloading and opening documents i have battery 2 days after......the smaller size makes it easier to one hand type on it and it is quicker if you leanr the ins and outs to get the right words that would get mixed up with other words......and as for the screen i am able to see it in anytime of the day even outside with the bright sun down here in south florida....
